We rate each pick 1 to 5 units with 5 being the strongest play (read about units).
Risk 1% of your bankroll per unit (never risk more than 5% of total bankroll on any pick).
Game: Detroit at Orlando (3:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Orlando +5
Detroit goes for the sweep tonight and after their dismantling of the Magic here in Orlando last game, many think they will get it. We think Orlando is going to scratch and claw however. Detroit cannot be "up" for this game despite a desire to get extra rest. The Pistons haven't swept a series in 18 years. Orland on the other hand does not want to go down big again and spend the whole offseason thinking about a humiliating series ending in two straight big home losses. So we believe the motivation is with the Magic. But, can they pull it off? Not if Detroit brings their 'A' game. But we are not sure they will. They are 9-22 under Flip Saunders following a great defensive performance (holding opponent to 80 points or less). They are also 3-13 ATS over the past decade on the road as a #1 seed. We look for Orlando to keep this one close.
Game: San Antonio at Denver (8:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Denver +2
San Antonio responded as expected in game two after Denver came in and set the tone with a game one upset. Denver actually showed a lot of heart down the stretch and had their chances to pull of the unthinkable, though. They come home with a ton of confidence. They had their chances despite shooting just 39% from the field. If Denver's shooting was on, they would have won that game! The Pepsi Center is going ot be absolutely rocking as Denver fans know this is the first time they really have a shot, with Iverson and Anthony, to pull of a first-round upset. With George Karl at the helm, Denver plays well against good teams. Under him, the Nuggets are 21-10 ATS vs. teams that make 46%+ of their shots and 25-14 ATS vs. teams that hit 36%+ of three point attempts. Meanwhile, the Spurs are just 3-13 ATS this season on the road vs. teams that make 46%+ of their shots! Denver is 22-6 ATS this season revenging a loss (they don't get intimidated). We think Denver has something to prove here and they will do it.
Game: Houston at Utah (10:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Utah -3
How will Houston react to such a horrible game three performance? They'll be fighting the psychological issues associated with that as well as another hostile Utah crowd. Utah will apply the same formula as last game - aggressiveness and hustle. Utah is now 32-10 at home this season. Houston on the other hand is just 13-24 ATS in late season play vs. winning teams the past two seasons. We look for Utah to ride the momentum and capture another must-win game for them here.
