Basketball Predictions - April 18, 2010

Now that's what I'm talking about! We finished a perfect 4-0 yesterday, including a 5-unit winner on Cleveland. Over the last six weeks, our NBA picks are hitting just under 60% at 44-32 for +27 units.

You can bet that we are ready for more today as we hit the NBA floor with a trio of premium NBA selections including a pair of 4-unit plays.

Today's NBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Charlotte at Orlando (5:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Orlando -10 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)

The Orlando Magic came close a year ago, but couldn't manage to get it done. They have however, gained a lot of playoff experience the past few years. While that experience is a key missing ingredient for the Bobcats. The Bobcats did a great job on their home court, but struggled on the road this season. The Magic get it done as a favorite as they have gone 20-6-1 ATS in their last 27 in this role. The Bobcats are just 3-7 ATS last 10 in Orlando, and the playoff atmosphere will make it tougher. I'll go with Orlando in this one.

The San Antonio Spurs have an abundance of playoff experience, which should help them here opening on the road vs. the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs made moves to improve their team late in the season, adding Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood. This still remains an overrated team. The Spurs understand that the path to playoff success is on the defensive end of the floor. They have gone 7-1 to the UNDER as a dog of 4.5 or less in their last eight. The Mavs have gone 14-6 to the UNDER in their last 20 as a playoff favorite. I'll go with the UNDER here.

Portland did a great job, considering all the injuries they had to deal with this season. The Phoenix Suns know how to play just one way, and that is fast and they t about to abandon that style in the playoffs, especially at home. The Suns don't face many totals in this range, but when they do, the OVER is loaded with value. The Suns faced just 12 totals all season long of less than 210 total points, and the high-octane offense delivered a 10-2 mark to the OVER in the 12 games. The fact is facing a total of fewer than 210, the Suns have played OVER to a 25-7 mark in their last 32, and also own an 8-2 mark to the OVER as a playoff favorite from 5-10.5. Portland has played to an 18-8 mark to the OVER on the road vs. a team with a winning home record. This one goes OVER the total.
