![]() Today's NBA Basketball Picks: The Heat have been impressive on the defensive end during their late surge that shows them at 10-1 over their last 11 games. The Heat have strangled opponents, holding them to 86.1 points per game during the stretch, not counting overtime minutes. That means the offense here would have to generate 197+ to push this one OVER the total, if they hold a pedestrian Philly offense to similar numbers. The Heat have topped that mark just one time during this streak, and just five times since late January! The last six between these clubs played in Philly have failed to reach the total. I like the UNDER here.Game: Washington at New York Knicks (7:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Washington +3.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6) The Knicks made a nice 12-6 run around the first of the year, but have slipped badly since. The Knicks, over their last 45 games, have been a woeful 13-32. They did manage a 5-3 ATS mark during their 12-6 run as a favorite, but otherwise are 5-10 ATS as chalk. The Wizards, since ending a six-game losing streak, have played much better having gone 4-3 over their last seven, including 3-1 vs. teams with a losing record. The Knicks play well against the good teams, but have stumbled vs. the weak ones as they are just 2-7 ATS at home in their last nine vs. a team with a losing record. I'll go with Washington in this one.Game: Toronto at Detroit (7:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Toronto +120 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 4.8) The Detroit Pistons have won just five of their last 24 games, so posted as a favorite here gets immediate attention on the other side. That gets some quick support when you look at them in the role of a favorite, where they aren't only 4-10 ATS they have lost 10 of their last 14 outright in the role of a favorite. The Raptors are currently 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games, but the Pistons simply haven't proved able to win many games. When posted as a favorite, they have been even worse! I'll grab Toronto on the moneyline here.Game: Charlotte at New Jersey (7:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Game Total UNDER 191.5 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6) I'm not sure if anyone was asked which NBA team has allowed the fewest points per game, if the Charlotte Bobcats would come up often, but they in fact are the NBA’s best defensive team! They will be pitted against the NBA's worst offensive team in the New Jersey Nets. Charlotte has taken that defense on the road and made it work to the tune of an 18-7-1 UNDER mark in their last 26 vs. a team with a losing home record. The Nets have struggled offensively all year in particular against a sticky defense like the Bobcats, and I like the UNDER in this one.Game: Atlanta at Milwaukee (8:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Game Total UNDER 188.5 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6) The Milwaukee Bucks have gone 27-11 over their last 38 games, and this is a team that brings intensity to the defensive end of the court virtually every night. They are subsequently 24-13-1 to the UNDER over their last 38 games. They have allowed just seven teams to reach the century mark over the 38 games without the benefit of overtime. The Hawks have scored much better this season, but on the road vs. a winning team over their last nine, they have averaged just 91 points per game. The Bucks are 35-16-1 to the UNDER in their last 52 vs. the East. I'll go with the UNDER in this one.Game: Oklahoma City at Portland (10:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Portland -130 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 3.1) Pick: 4 units on Game Total UNDER 187 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6) The Portland Trailblazers have faced a lot of injury obstacles, but it hasn't slowed them down. In fact, it has given them some good team depth to take into the playoffs. This is a team that is peaking at the right time having gone 17-5 over their last 22 games. They have been a force on the defensive end, which has been their calling card, as no team has gotten out of the 80s against them in each of their last four. The Thunder are vastly improved over a year ago, but have struggled with no rest, cashing just one of their last seven. The UNDER has prevailed in 10 of the last 11 between these clubs, and the Thunder has cashed just one of the last six. I'll go with Portland on the moneyline here, and the UNDER.Game: Dallas at Los Angeles Clippers (10:35 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Game Total UNDER 198 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6) The Los Angeles Clippers have gone just 3-17 down the stretch, winding down yet another disappointing season. Their problem is generating offense as they have averaged 94.4 points per game over their last 19. I don't expect big minutes from the Dallas starters here, with the hopes of just shortening the game and getting a workout, then out of town injury free. The Mavs are playing UNDER in seven of their last eight after reaching the 100-point mark, and the Clippers at 42-18-2 to the UNDER at home vs. a team with a .600+ winning road mark. I'll go UNDER here. Results: 2-6 ![]() NBA Basketball Picks Resources:
