Nba Betting Predictions - April 07, 2009

There were no NBA games yesterday as the eyes of the hoops world were on the National Championship game. Today we are storming the NBA court with five premium picks. Over the last week, our NBA picks are hitting 60% for +10.4 units and since mid-November, we are 227-184 for +75.3 units.

Today's NBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Philadelphia at Charlotte (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Philadelphia +4.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)

There is no doubt that the Charlotte Bobcats are an improved team, but the oddsmakers are beginning to over compensate, pushing the value to the other side. While they have played better, they are just 6-8 over their last 14, dropping three straight. This will be just the fourth time all season that they are posted as a favorite against a team with a winning record, and they have managed one win. The Sixers are an under the radar 28-16 over their last 44 games, and this line is way off. I'll ride with Philadelphia as a false underdog and take the points.

Game: Atlanta at Toronto (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Atlanta -1.5 (-105) (risk 3 to win 2.9)
The Toronto Raptors saw their season high six-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of the New York Knicks. This is still a team that is just 5-13 straight up at home against a team with a winning record, so it is hard to justify what is listed as just about a pick-em game. The Hawks have been an unimpressive team on the road, but they have a winning record against losing teams. The Raptors aren't good to their backers as a home dog as they are 6-18-1 ATS in that role over their last 25, and just 21-45 ATS on one day’s rest. This is a good spot for the Hawks who just need to win here, and they get the call.
Game: New Orleans at Miami (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Miami -175 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 1.7)

The Miami Heat has been rock solid at home where they have put together a 26-12 mark on the season. That includes 9-2 since mid-February, and when you consider that the two losses were to Orlando and Cleveland, they are beating everyone other then the top of the hill NBA teams. It has been about a month since the Hornets have had to face a team with a winning record on the road, and since mid-January, they have managed to beat just one. That is over two and a half months. That makes for a lot of value playing Miami on the moneyline here, and that is my call in this one.

Game: San Antonio at Oklahoma City (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on San Antonio -5.5 (-105) (risk 3 to win 2.9)
The San Antonio Spurs learned a harsh lesson a few weeks ago when they came in here and were surprised by the Thunder 78-76. You can bet the Spurs are going to come in here with a different attitude for this one. The Thunder caught fire for awhile, but their recent play resembles a team that started 3-29, as they are just 3-9 over their last 12 and 1-5 over their last six. The Spurs have eaten up the lesser teams on the road where they are 13-3 straight up, and 12-4 ATS against teams with a losing record. Revenge is sweet, so I'll back the Spurs here.
Game: Orlando at Houston (8:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 187.5 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)

This game should produce playoff intensity from both sides, as it is Orlando's last game against a team over .500. Both of these teams bring top 10 defenses to the table in terms of points allowed per game. The Magic have brought the defense against the top teams as they have played to the UNDER to a 9-2 mark against teams with a winning percentage of .600 or better. Houston has presented the same defensive intensity in the high-profile matchup as well. The Rockets boast a 9-1 mark in their last 10 played against a team with a winning percentage of .600 or higher as well. This one should be a playoff-caliber game, with defense prevailing. The UNDER is the call.

Results: 4-1
