Premium Picks

Game: Colorado at Chicago Cubs (2:20 PM Eastern)
Pick: 1 star on Colorado +185 (risk 100 to win 185)

Carlos Zambrano has cooled a bit lately, struggling with his control and allowing 9 runs in his last fifteen innings pitched. The Cubs are just 2-4 vs. the Rockies with Zambrano starting in the last six. Don't get me wrong, he's great. But, I think the Rockies have a shot in this one because they can hit the ball. They have scored 9+ runs five times over the past ten games. The problem has been their defense but Chicago is no offensive powerhouse. Josh Fogg has not been beaten in Septemember. The Rockies are off a game in which they gave up 19 runs, but they are 10-2 the past two seasons following a game in which they allowed 12+ runs. The Cubs are tied for last place and shouldn't be laying 2-to-1 odds. They are 5-9 this season as a big favorite of -150 or more. With Zambrano on the mound, the Cubs are 3-7 this season as a home favorite of -150 or more! I think this line is too high and thus we get value on the Rockies.

Game: Kansas City at Detroit (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on Detroit -218 (risk 200 to win 92)

Detroit looks for their 15th win in the last 16 games against KC. They give the ball to lefty Wilfredo Ledezma who gave up just 1 earned run in a win in his last outing - which happened to be against these Royals. KC starts Runelvys Hernandez who boasts a 6-10 record with 6.38 ERA. The Tigers are 35-13 this year vs. teams that allow 5.2+ runs per game (KC allows 6.0 per game and 6.2 vs. lefties). Versus lefties, the Royals are 12-36 on the year. Tigers here.

Pass It On
How much to bet? I recommend 1% of your bankroll for every star. A one-star pick = 1% of bankroll. A five-star pick = 5% of bankroll. It is strongly recommended that you never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on any given game! Remember, there are no such thing as locks. Never bet over your head and you'll live to see another day. Approach your bets as an investment that grows steadily over the long-term. For more, see my write-up on Bankroll Management.
