![]() Today's MLB Baseball Picks: The Pittsburgh Pirates are a complete joke, and they have just one player on their entire roster with even as many as 50 RBI. They also have just one player with as many as 20 HRs, so you would think speed must be their thing, but they aren't doing that either. All the top players have been traded for prospects, which don't seem to pan out, and the Pirates are once again facing a 100-loss season. The result is a 3-23 mark in their last 26 games where they have been out-scored 159-82 or by 6.1-3.1 or three runs per game. They will go with Jeff Karstens who has pitched out of the bullpen the last 3+ months, and has not worked more than 3.2 innings since mid-June, meaning he will be on a pitch count and thus exposing the middle relief of the Pirates to extended duty. I'll go with the Dodgers here.Game: Los Angeles Dodgers at Pittsburgh (7:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 runs -120 (runline) (risk 3 to win 2.5) I don't see any risk in going against a team on the runline that is on a 3-23 run and getting out-scored by three runs per game, in fact all I see is value. That in itself is enough, but when you consider that the Pirates are going with Jeff Karstens in his first start in three and a half months, it adds to it to the value as he has not pitched more than 3.2 innings in over three months. All that does is allow a battered Pirates bullpen more innings in the game and the Dodgers take advantage of it here. I'll take the Dodgers on the runline.Game: Boston at New York Yankees (7:10 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on New York Yankees +110 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 4.4) When these teams get together, sometimes you can throw the stats out the door. This is a heated heated rivalry, one in which they have exchanged blows and seem to alternate getting into eachother's heads. The Yankees dominated for awhile, beat up on Pedro when he was beating everyone else, but the Yank's, as he described, were his Daddy. The Sawx came back from a 3-0 deficit in the Championship round and got in the Yankees' heads. This season, Boston took the first eight games from the Bombers early in the season as it looked like the Yankees were just not as good as Boston. Then the Yanks woke up and have been the Yankees again since A-Rod rejoined the team and left Boston in the dust. They swept the Sox four straight in Fenway, then two of three in Boston, and have the upper hand once again. The Yanks are going to be focused here and get deep into the Sox's heads that they rule the AL once again and simply put, at this point in time the Yankees are the better team. At plus money at home, they Yankees are 31-9 over their last 40 games and they get the call here.Game: Boston at New York Yankees (7:15 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on New York Yankees +1.5 runs -145 (runline) (risk 3 to win 2.1) This is the grudge match of all grudge matches in MLB. These teams are heated, hated rivals and are always slugging it out for supremecy in the AL. The Yanks once again have the upper hand and are in the Sox's heads. Simply put, at this stage of the season, the Yankees are the much better team. Getting a team on the plus side of the runline at relatively short odds that has gone 31-9 in their last 40 here, and swept the Sox four straight the last time they were here is just too good to pass up. The Yanks get the call on the runline here.Game: Baltimore at Cleveland (7:20 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Cleveland -110 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 3.6) Cleveland might appear to be in the danger zone here, dropping 11 straight. But then again they are playing the Orioles, who have an even worse elongated fate on the road where they are just 24-50 on the season. Baltimore also has a pitcher on the hill with just about an equalizing streak as the O's are 1-10 in Hernandez last 11 starts as a dog. The O's are also cashing just 13 of their last 51 against a right-hand starter on the road. Carmona has some ugly numbers for sure this season, but when you put him on the mound at home against a losing team presto - the Indians are 13-5. The Orioles have had a difficult time winning here as they are just 9-25 in their last 34. The Tribe has a long losing streak, but the O's have expressed an even greater futility that has gone on a lot longer. I'll back Cleveland in this one. Results: 3-2 ![]() MLB Baseball Picks Resources:
