Game: Washington at New York Mets (7:10 PM Eastern) Pick: 1 star on Washington +153 (risk 100 to win 153)
The Mets have clinched. Are they relaxing? They have lost four of five and seven of ten games. Seems like they aren't giving it their "A" effort. Tonight Tom Glavine goes and that's why we see the Mets as a big favorite. But I think we have a chance with Beltran Perez. Perez has only pitched in six games going just under 12 innings. But, he's allowed just one run. The Nats do well against lefties like Glavine (5.0 runs per game vs. 4.5 vs. righties). Despite their losing record, they are 23-19 on the season vs. lefties. This really comes down to motivation. A win right now means more to Washington than to New York. And the Mets have demonstrated that they just don't care about winning very much right now. The Mets are the much better team but I like Washington's chances here, especially with a 1.5 to 1 payoff.
Game: Kansas City at Minnesota (8:10 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 stars on Minnesota -210 (risk 500 to win 238)
KC has posted some surprises this season. Despite their terrible road record, they've won some on the road as a big underdog. But, I don't see them surprising the Twins here. No way. The Twins have a playoff berth in their sights. If they win here and the White Sox lose, they get it. Minnesota is the best home team in the league at 50-24. They have an incredible bullpen (14-3 record, 17-1 on saves and 2.43 ERA at home) and Boof Bonser is a solid starter who is hot. He's got a 4.19 ERA at home this season and over his last three starts, he's held Detroit, Cleveland and Boston to just 6 runs in 19 and two thirds innings. Big favorites of -200 or more with a very good bullpen whose ERA is 3.33 or better facing a starting pitcher with poor control (more than 2.75 walks per start) are 77-12 (87%) over the past decade. KC, losers of six straight games by a combined score of 33-11, have packed it in for the year. Minnesota is motivated and much more talented. Take the Twins.

| How
much to bet? I recommend 1% of your bankroll for every
star. A one-star pick = 1% of bankroll. A five-star pick
= 5% of bankroll. It is strongly recommended that
you never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on any given
game! Remember, there are no such thing as locks.
Never bet over your head and you'll live to see another
day. Approach your bets as an investment that grows steadily
over the long-term. For more, see

Management. |
