Premium Picks

Game: Florida at Philadelphia (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on Philadelphia -201 (risk 200 to win 100)

Over their last three starts, Cole Hamels has a 2.75 ERA as compared to 9.00 for Ricky Nolasco. Hamels looks to lead Philly into the postseason for the first time in 13 years. Florida bats have gone cold (3.9 runs per game over their last seven games) while Philadelphia's have been strong all year. Throw in Philly's big bullpen advantage and the Phils are a nice play today. Florida's pen has a 5.96 road ERA (6-18 record).

Game: Washington at New York Mets (7:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on New York Mets -138 (risk 200 to win 145)

Pedro Astacio has been horrible this year (6.38 ERA). On the road he's 1-3 with an 11.52 ERA. Hernandez has been much more steady for the Mets and he's got a great bullpen to back him up (3.13 ERA). The Mets pound right handed starters like Astacio and should be able to break out of their offensive slump tonight. The Mets have lost two in a row but they are 16-5 this season following two straight losses. They are also 18-2 vs. a pitcher with an ERA over 5.70 this year. New York here.

Game: Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati (7:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on Chicago Cubs -115 (risk 200 to win 174)

The Cubs seem to have something over on Cincinnati. Even this season, Chicago has won 9 of 15 including 4 of 6 here in Cincy. Rich Hill is pitching very well having given up just 2 earned runs in his last 22 innings pitched. He threw a two-hitter vs. these Reds just last Saturday. He's got a very solid bullpen backing him up (3.45 road ERA) and right now Chicago is scoring runs (5.0 over their last seven) while Cincinnati is not (3.7 per game over same span). Since the mid-way point of the season, the Red are just 30-42 as the wheels have come off. Cubbies here.

Game: Seattle at Chicago White Sox (8:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on Seattle +143 (risk 200 to win 286)

Jose Contreras has been great for Chicago this year but Gil Meche is no slouch. Meche is 11-8 with a 4.24 ERA. He's allowed just 8 earned runs in his last three starts. And Contreras has an 11.57 ERA in his last two starts here. Chicago is reeling right now having lost 10 of their last 18 home games and six of their last seven overall. They are scoring just 3.0 runs per game over that span while Seattle is scoring 7.1 per game over the same time period. Meche is 11-4 over the past two seasons during the second half vs. great teams (54%+) as he gets up for these contests. Good spot here to fade the struggling Sox with very good pitcher on the mound for Seattle.

Game: Pittsburgh at San Diego (10:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on San Diego -182 (risk 200 to win 110)

We got the win fading the Pirates on the road last night after they had taken the first two from the Dodgers. We'll fade them again tonight on the road at San Diego. Rookie Tom Gorzelanny has pitched well for the Pirates this year but he's up against Chris Young who is 10-5 with a 3.63 ERA. He hasn't lost since August 4th. The Pirates score just 3.9 per game on the road and they are 2-16 this season on the road vs. top-level bullpen's like San Diego's. I expect very little scoring from the Pirates here and for San Diego to get the needed win at home.

How much to bet? I recommend 1% of your bankroll for every star. A one-star pick = 1% of bankroll. A five-star pick = 5% of bankroll. It is strongly recommended that you never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on any given game! Remember, there are no such thing as locks. Never bet over your head and you'll live to see another day. Approach your bets as an investment that grows steadily over the long-term. For more, see my write-up on Bankroll Management.
