Free Baseball Pick - September 20, 2007

Dropped a pair yesterday. Back with two more plays from a short MLB card today.

Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Chicago White Sox at Kansas City (2:20 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 units on Chicago White Sox +114 (risk 2 to win 2.3)

The White Sox have played well down the stretch, having gone 5-2 in their last seven games. The offense has been sluggish most of the year, but is at a high point right now, averaging six runs a game over the last seven. Jon Garland has had a decent season, but had two horrific games allowing 11 and eight earned runs. If you toss those games out his overall ERA is 3.73, so he hasn't been too bad. He is hotter now, than at any point during the season as he has pitched to a 1.23 ERA over his last three. Kansas City has won just three of their last 14, and the offense has gone stone cold. The Royals have managed just 37 runs in the 14 games, or less than three per outing. Zack Grienke gets the ball, and the Royals have been just 4-8 with him on the hill, losers of two straight. We like the White Sox to take the decisive game in the series.

Game: Houston at St. Louis (8:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 units on Houston +121 (risk 2 to win 2.4)

The Cards made a run late, but then faded quickly down the stretch. Their recent slide is a 2-12 run that has left them high and dry of the playoffs. The continuing saga for this team has been the lack of any consistent offense. Their latest tailspin shows they have produced less than four runs a game over their last 14. Brandon Looper has had a see-saw season, and has allowed six or more earned runs in seven starts, so when he is bad, he is awful. Wandy Rodriguez has also been up and down this season, but he has been consistent after a few consecutive bad outings. Rodriguez has allowed four or more runs in two consecutive starts this season twice, and has come back with gems both times. One outing was seven innings, and one run, and the other was six while not allowing a single run. We will ride him here, expecting a very strong start against the hitless Cards.

Results: 1-1
