Game: Detroit at Cleveland (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Detroit +106 (risk 3 to win 3.2)
The Tigers put themselves in a bad position by struggling in the second half, but they are putting pressure on the Indians and Yankees now. They have won five straight and are now 10-2 over their last 12. The pitching staff has allowed just 11 runs during this five game winning streak. Kenny Rodgers has missed most of the season, but since returning he has pitched the Tigers to two wins, and the Tigers are 6-2 in his starts overall. The Indians off a 13-2 run, have cooled some spliting their last four games. Paul Byrd has been on the mound at the right time, as the Indians have scored nearly 6 runs per game in his starts. Byrd has given up more hits than any pitcher in baseball over the last three years, as he has allowed 657 in just 557 innings, or 100 more than innings pitched. This year has been no exception, as Byrd has allowed 209 in 174 innings. The Indians are just 1-7 when they score 3 runs or less in his starts. With a hot Tiger staff, the runs may be at a premium. We like the hot Tigers to take the opener.
Game: Texas at Minnesota (8:10 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Texas +106 (risk 3 to win 3.2)
Minnesota has dropped four straight and 14 of their last 19. They start Kevin Slowey who has pitched to a 6.13 ERA over his last three starts. This team scores an unheard of 4.0 runs per game at home on the season. THey are averaging .211 batting over their last seven games. Texas has performed well vs. right handed starters all season (+7 units). They score 5.1 per game on the road and sport one of the better bullpens in the league. Minnesota is just a .500 team as a home favorite this season and they are 1-7 here thus far in September. We like Texas here.
Game: Chicago White Sox at Kansas City (8:10 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Kansas City +116 (risk 3 to win 3.5)
Kyle Davies has pitched extremely well of late, posting a 3.00 ERA in his last three starts. And, the KC bullpen has been excellent at home all season. Not good news for the White Sox who are averaging 4.1 runs per game on the road this season. The Royals are no world-beaters but they get 4.6 per game at home and should be able to outscore the White Sox tonight. Vazquez is just 14-19 vs. losing teams the last two seasons and 11-24 overall as a road favorite of -100 to -150. KC can and should win this one.
