Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Arizona at San Diego (10:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on San Diego -150 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2)

It is down to playing out the string for these two teams. The Padres were not expected to do well in the NL West, but have done a great job all season at home where they stand a more-than-competitive 38-35 for the season. The D-Backs have had a horrible season, and at 20 games under .500 there is nothing left to salvage. They certainly aren't disputing that statement with their recent play which includes one win in their last 10 games, and overall, just 4-16 on the road including getting swept at lowly Washington. The D-Backs have also turned sour against right-hand pitching at 3-13 in their last 16. They will go with Bucknor in this one, which has resulted in six straight losses in his last six starts. The Padres have been closing strong, and have won seven straight as a favorite and are also 6-1 in Correia's last seven starts. The Padres have also taken four of the last five between these two. I'll go with San Diego here.

Physically, the Arizona Diamondbacks aren't on the golf course yet, but mentally they have been there for weeks. This is a team that has lost nine of their last 10 games, and is 4-16 in their last 20 on the road. Their last 10 games have seen them get outscored 61-30, or by a 6.1-3.0 average final score, or just over three runs per game. They have a pitcher on the hill that has seen them lose each of his last six starts vs. a Padres team that is 7-0 in their last seven as a favorite, and a pitcher that has led them to five wins in his last six starts. The runline basically allows us to flip the -150 into a +140, and the numbers here show the value in doing so! I will back the Padres on the runline here.

It is hard to make a bad choice when you back the Giants with Lincecum on the mound at home. The Giants are winning two of every three games at home on the season, and Lincecum has been all but unhittable at home. Lincecum has turned in an 8-1 mark, backed by a 1.83 ERA at home, with opponents hitting just .204 against him. Jason Hammel has pitched reasonably well for the Rockies, but they are just 6-9 in his 15 road starts. He has faced the Giants three times this season, with the Rockies going down in defeat in all of them. The Rockies have done well, but not when they have been posted as a dog on the road where they are just 1-10 in their last 11. This is a good spot for the Giants, so I'll back them in this one.
