Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Minnesota at Cleveland (1:00 PM Eastern)

David Huff has struggled a bit of late but is coming off a confidence-boosting performance vs. these Twins last time out, giving up two runs in a 7-3 Indians win. Minnesota's offense has been nowhere to be found lately, averaging just 3.0 runs per game the last seven games. The Twins are lucky to be 4-3 during that stretch. On the road this season, they are 29-37 so the favorite role here is a bit unjustified. They are in fact just 16-22 the past two seasons as a road favorite. And, when facing LHP on the road this year, the Twins are just 4-17! With Blackburn on the mound, Minnesota is just 9-24 on the road the past two seasons. Cleveland gets the call here.

The Yankees continue to win but I like Toronto's chances here. Sergio Mitre has a 6.40 ERA in three road starts this season and he's facing a Toronto offense that has been on fire, averaging 6.0 runs per game over their last seven games. The Yankees are just 27-35 the past three seasons on the road in day games. Toronto is 49-44 as a home dog of +125 to +150. I like the Jays to get it done today.

It's been a nightmare season for the Mets who are now 61-75 on the year. Despite their troubles, at home this team has a winning record and they face a Cubs team today that is just 28-39 on the road this year. The Cubbies have struggled to score on the road all season (3.8 runs per game) and over their last seven games overall they are managing just 2.4 per game. Randy Wells has been very good and is certainly the better starter here, but Mike Pelfrey has been quite good at home. Despite a 4-7 record on the road, Pelfrey is 5-3 at home with a 3.80 ERA. I like the Mets as a live home dog today.

The Cubs have been a bad team to back on the road this season as they are just 28-39, thanks to an anemic offense. To ask them to win by 2+ runs here is really asking too much. While many are enamored with Randy Wells, the truth is that he is just 4-3 on the road while his counterpart here, Mike Pelfrey is 5-3 at home. The Cubs are just 25-37 this season on the runline in games with a total under nine. I like the Mets to keep this one close at least.
