Free Mlb Pick - October 16, 2007

We hit our Playoff Total of the Year, with an easy UNDER win in last night's Boston vs Cleveland game. We don't have a selection on tonight's game, but here is some information if you decide to venture in.

Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Boston at Cleveland (8:05 PM Eastern)

This is a no call for us, too many conflicts with both side and total. Here is some info, for those that choose to venture in on this one. Wakefield has been awful against .500+ teams, 77.1 innings, 83 hits, 5.59 ERA. Byrd has been equally awful: 74.1 innings, 109 hits, 5.81 ERA. Wakefield is a much better pitcher in a day game vs. a night game, as his four-year composite show -2.10 ERA at night as opposed to day. All four years are worse during a night game. Byrd has been a much better day pitcher vs. night. His composite ERA shows -1.35 at night vs. day. Wakefield is -0.20 on the road vs. home in ERA over the last four years, while Byrd has been a more effective starter on the road, -1.00 at home vs. away. The fact is both these pitchers are pitching to negative numbers across the board. Boston has a .556 SPCT against Byrd in 171 AB's with a .333 average. So the numbers start to look like OVER right? Not for us as these numbers all go into the teeth of a situation which is live for tonight's game that features 71% UNDERS in over 100 plays. You also have to consider that the bullpens on both of these teams are superb and capable of 4-5 innings of 0s on both sides. Wakefield is not adept at holding on runners, as he has allowed 41 SB's in 49 attempts against him this year, so Cleveland will be doing a lot of running early, be sure of it. These pitchers have combined for 26 starts against .500+ teams, and the totals record is 11 over, 13 under and two pushes (to a total of 10 which is tonight's magic number). Our assessment here is that there is no value on either side or total, and anyone playing either is taking on a 50-50 proposition. Good luck if you venture forth!
