Premium Picks

Game: Oakland at Minnesota (1:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on Minnesota -153 (risk 200 to win 131)

Minny had trouble getting runs yesterday to hand Johan Santana a very rare home loss. Minnesota can't afford to lose a second at home. They look to Boof Bonser who has pitched very well of late (2.89 ERA over his last three starts). Esteban Loaiza has not thrown well on the road this season (6.08 ERA and 4-6 record). So, I expect Twins bats to rebound here. Loaiza is 6-15 in dome games. Take the Twinkies

Game: Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets (4:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on Los Angeles Dodgers +118 (risk 200 to win 236)

The Mets are in trouble. No El Duque and no Pedro is going to be very tough to overcome. Derek Lowe all of a sudden becomes the best pitcher on the mound today. He's 15-8 this season including 6-4 on the road. Lowe is 14-4 this season vs. teams scoring 4.8+ runs per game. The Dodgers steamed into the playoffs winning seven straight. They are now 12-3 on the road after 5+ straight wins over the past three seasons. They scored 7.6 runs per game over that stretch while giving up just 4. Go with the dog here.

Game: Detroit at New York Yankees (8:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on New York Yankees -242 (risk 200 to win 83)

The Yankees took care of business in game one and I expect the same tonight. Mike Mussina has a 9-2 home record with a 3.19 ERA. In his last three starts he's given up just 5 earned runs in 16.7 innings. Justin Verlander has gotten shelled of late allowing 14 earned runs in 14 innings over his last three starts. Mussina is 7-3 with a 2.58 ERA vs. the Tigers and he comes to play against good teams. New York's offense just too much here in the Bronx. Yankees.

How much to bet? I recommend 1% of your bankroll for every star. A one-star pick = 1% of bankroll. A five-star pick = 5% of bankroll. It is strongly recommended that you never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on any given game! Remember, there are no such thing as locks. Never bet over your head and you'll live to see another day. Approach your bets as an investment that grows steadily over the long-term. For more, see my write-up on Bankroll Management.
