Today's MLB Baseball Picks:
Game: Pittsburgh at Chicago Cubs (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Chicago Cubs -140 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 2.9)
The Pirates’ sweep yesterday has taken some of the air out of this line. But that was one day, and the old saying, "One day does not a season make" certainly applies to the Pirates. The Pirates have been a road disaster. They have won three in a row on the road just once this season and that was to 100-loss Washington. I think the Cubs will come out ready and loaded tonight after yesterday's debacle. The Pirates have 56 road losses for a reason, and not going to weigh one day against a resume of doom they have left behind all season. Pirates are still 12-47 on the road against a team with a winning record, and things get back to normal tonight. I’m going with the Cubs here.
Game: Pittsburgh at Chicago Cubs (8:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Chicago Cubs -1.5 runs +140 (runline) (risk 3 to win 4.2)
The Pirates swept the Cubs yesterday, so we get some juice in the line here, but I'm not going to base one day on a season of futility for the Pirates. This is a team that has won three straight on the road just one time all season, and that was against the 100-loss Nationals. The overall body of work says that this is a great percentage play, and valued pick as the Pirates have swooned to a 6-36 road mark in their last 42 road games. They have dropped 56 on the road this season and are 11-41 as a rod dog in their last 52 games. They stand at just 8-27 in Chicago in their last 35 played here. I'm going with the Cubs on the runline.
