Today's MLB Baseball Picks:
Game: Colorado at Philadelphia (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 10 -120 (risk 3 to win 2.5)
It is tough mentally, when you see a team post double-digit runs in consecutive games, especially when the total is 35. The one thing about baseball however, is that the momentum can change with the next day's starting pitcher. Ubaldo Jimenez has made 10 starts and in eight of the 10 the game did not see 10 runs. It is a product of him pitching well enough to keep his team in games as well as an unproductive Rockie lineup - especially on the road. Kyle Kendrick is a much better pitcher than what we have seen thus far, carrying a 13-6 career record into this game and certainly has shutdown capabilities. The Phillies have played under in 17 of the last 22 when their opponent scored five or more in the previous game, and with Estabrooks calling balls and strikes, nine of the last 10 have gone under as he seems to be very pitcher friendly. Under gets the call.
Game: Pittsburgh at Cincinnati (7:10 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Cincinnati -134 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.2)
Cincinnati continues to be a no-show on the road, but have been a completely different club at home. The 9-19 mark on the road is supported by a 14-9 mark at home. That is almost 30% better in their home park. The Pirates have been just 5-12 in their last 17 road games, and the opponents have plated 31 runs in Snell's six road starts. The Reds have solved Snell to the tune of a 5.18 ERA in his career. The Reds are 8-1 in their last nine home tilts. Johny Cueto has had his problems on the road, but is 3-0 at home and the Reds get the call here.
Game: Washington at San Diego (10:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on San Diego -143 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.1)
It has been a big struggle for the Padres trying to get something going. Randy Wolf has not been part of that and has been one of the most dominating pitchers at home the past several years - wherever he has called home. His numbers are scary as his team's have a combined 17-6 mark at home over the last four years when he starts and that includes 3-1 this season. Shawn Hill has been a difficult play to make on the road. The Nats are 4-10 in his 14 career road starts including 0-3 this year with a 6.46 ERA. Padres are the choice in this one.
Game: Detroit at Los Angeles Angels (10:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on Los Angeles Angels -116 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 3.5)
Detroit has simply had a nightmare start to the season. Just as it looked like they were ready to rebound they have slipped again, especially on the road where the tally is now nine losses in their last 10 games. Jeremy Bonderman entered the big leagues labeled to be a difference maker, but he has never been as indicated by his sub-.500 career record and a nearly 5 ERA. This year he is basically towing the same line. The Angels have dominated the AL Central and have quieted all bats in the last eight games as they have allowed just 14 runs or 1.75 per game. Ervin Santana is 6-2 with a 3.24 ERA and has been everything the Angels expected. Santana is 41-32 over his career, but has allowed less hits than innings pitched and this year is no different. Angels continue to add to the Tiger woes here.
Results: 3-1
