Mlb Free Tips - May 25, 2008

We posted another winning night going 4-2 last night. Overall across all sports we were 7-2 yesterday.

In bases, we're hitting 66% (40-21) over the past two weeks for +54.1 units. As we've always preached, sports betting is about streaks and the latest streak has taken us back into the positive on the entire season. So great news there. Today we have six picks we like...

Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Seattle at New York Yankees (1:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Game Total UNDER 9.5 -120 (risk 4 to win 3.3)

The Yankees bats have awoken after their slump, putting up 12 runs yesterday after 13 on Friday. But, let's not forget that this team needed 10 games to put up that same 25-run total prior to the past two games. We don't see that same kind of explosion for a third-straight game. As for Seattle, they are averaging 4.0 runs per game on the road and 3.6 per game in day-games and must face Wang. So, don't expect a lot of run production fromt the M's here. The Yankees are 14-10 UNDER at home this season, 10-5 UNDER vs. LHP and 11-1 UNDER in day games! They are also 20-7 UNDER vs. teams that score less than 4.8 runs per game. New York is also 17-5 UNDER in their last 22 at home after two straight games with 15+ total runs. We like this one to come in UNDER the total.

The D-Backs have fallen on hard times after their surprising start. They have lost five of their lsat seven games. These two pitchers are smokin' right now. Owings has posted a 2.70 ERA in his last three starts while Glavine has posted a 3.37 ERA over his last three. But, they aren't that good and should revert to form. The Braves score 5.7 runs per game at home and 5.8 per game vs. RHP. Owings will have trouble keeping this offense in check. He is, in fact, 0-8 the past two seasons vs. teams that are at .540 or better. Overall the D-Backs are 6-19 vs. on the road vs. such teams the past two seasons. They are also 20-39 the past three seasons after a game in which they scored under 2 runs. Atlanta is 10-0 this season at home to a line of -125 to +125. We like the Braves to keep their offense going and to win in a high-scoring affair.

Colorado suffered a 9-2 loss last night to the Mets after posting a game one win on Friday. In the rubber match, we get a pitching duel between John Maine and Aaron Cook. As bad as Colorado has been this season, they generally win with Cook on the mound. This guy has posted a 3.06 ERA in ten games and a 2.73 ERA at home. The Rockies are a decent team at home where they score a full run per game more than they do on the road. Maine has been quite good too but Colorado is 30-19 the past two seasons vs. pitchers wiht an ERA of 3.50 or better. The Mets are 12-19 vs. RHP this season and 14-21 to a total of 8.5 to 10. They are also 4-13 after 3+ straight road games. We like Cook at this price.

We were on the Reds yesterday and they delivered a win. Today we'll switch it up and back the Pads at home behind Greg Maddux. Maddux has been unhittable at home this season, giving up just 18 hits, one walk and 5 earned runs in 24 frames (1.87 ERA). His counterpart, Matt Belisle has a 6.75 ERA and 1-4 record. The Reds average just 4.1 runs per game on the road which is why they own a 9-18 road mark. San DIego doesn't have much offense at all, but Maddux should keep Cincy down enough to notch the win.

This game has a very low total thanks ot John Lackey (1.29 ERA) and Jose Contreras (3.17 ERA). But, Lackey has only seen 14 innings of action in two games. Both of these teams have sub-par offenses overall but their offensive struggles have really come from games played on artificial turf. While averaging just 3.1 runs per game on artificial surfaces, the Angels average 4.7 per game on grass. Chicago has a similar profile. They average just 2.7 runs per game on artificial surfaces but 4.9 per game on grass. While on the surface (no pun intended), this looks like an easy UNDER play, we see value on the OVER.
