Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Kansas City at Toronto (1:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Toronto -133 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.3)

The Royals have settled down, and this young team will have its bright moments this season, but at the same time they will be prone to long droughts as well. They are currently in one now as they have dropped 5 straight. Not only has the pitching gone south, allowing 33 runs in the 5 games, but the bats as well, as they have plated just 13 runs, or 2.6 a game. Luke Hochevar has been average, but like many young pitchers he has problems with command, and has walked 18 in his last 4 starts. The Jays have suddenly gone 8-3 in their last 11, and the pitching has been masterful, allowing 3.5rpg, including a 10 run game, meaning just 2.6rpg in 10 of 11. Jesse Litsch has allowed 5 hits or less in 5 consecutive starts, and stands at 5-1 on the season, and we will back him, and the Jays at home

Game: New York Mets at Colorado (3:55 PM Eastern)
Pick: 5 units on Colorado -133 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 3.8)

Once again the Mets find a way to lose. Since the September collapse last season, the story seems to be the same. That includes five straight in the loss column, and a sub-.500 mark. Claudio Vargas has now been thrown into the mix, with the same results: two starts and two losses. Jeff Francis has struggled so far this season, but he is a quality starter with plus stuff, and if you have to trust one of the starters to get a W in this one, it is a no-brainer. The Rockies finally appear to be snapping out of their woes with four wins in their last six games. They will handle the sluggish Mets at home.

Game: Arizona at Atlanta (3:55 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Atlanta -112 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

This is purely the Randy Johnson effect at work here. The D-backs were hot out of the gate, but have gone just 10-12 in their last 22 and have won just once in their last seven on the road. Johnson is giving up more hits than innings pitched and the plus stuff is gone. The Braves are 14-7 in their last 21 and Jorge Campillo was added to the rotation after dominating in the pen. He did not disappoint, tossing six innings of goose-eggs at the Mets, lowering his ERA to 0.99 on the season. This game looks like it should be in the -130 to -140 range, so we'll grab the value and back the Braves.

Game: Seattle at New York Yankees (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Game Total UNDER 9.5 -105 (risk 4 to win 3.8)

The Yankees have had their ups and downs offensively this season, but the truth is there have been many more downs than ups. A team that was supposed to challenge the 1,000 run mark this season has been held down by injuries and slumping players the entire season. As amazing as it sounds, the Yankees are 32-14 to the UNDER on the season. They also have been aided by pitching that has been better than advertised especially the pen, especially of late. Seattle has been slumping offensively all season and it doesn't matter who throws against them. This is a team that has scored 4 runs or less in 18 of their last 22 games. We will ride the UNDER here.

Game: San Francisco at Florida (7:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Florida -124 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.4)

The Giants have won three in a row for the third time this season, failing in their attempt to make it four the first two times. Bad teams have trouble running long streaks together, especially on the road. The Giants have waited for Matt Cain to be special, but he has yet to find that quality. He has really struggled on the road as the Giants are just 5-17 in his last 22 road starts. Florida continues to be a story in '08. They were expected to rest at the bottom of the NL East, but at the 47 game mark they are perched at the top. Burke Badenhop has not been anything special, but the Marlins are amidst one of those rides that produces wins and that is something the Giants have lacked on the road, and especially on the road with Cain on the hill. Marlins get another win.

Game: Cincinnati at San Diego (10:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Cincinnati -112 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

San Diego just can't find their way and are winners in just three of their last 10, and sit at the bottom of the NL West with the worst record in baseball. The hitting has been awful as they bring a slumping team average of .237 into this one, and already the Padres pen has blown nine of 18 save opportunities. They are desperate and are trying Will Ledezma in a starting role. Ledezma has failed in his first two attempts lasting just four innings last time out with an ERA of over 10 against the Reds. Bronson Arroyo started horribly, but has settled down nicely and has allowed just four runs over his last three starts, good for a 1.80 ERA. We like the Reds here against a Padre team that finds ways to lose.

Game: St. Louis at Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on St. Louis +126 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3.8)

Brad Penny had a career year last year, and much of that has carried forward to this year in the eyes of the odds-makers, but not the results. Penny allowed four runs or more in just five of his first 30 starts last year, but since has allowed four or more in eight of his last 12, and a 5.34 ERA shows he is not the same. Kyle Lohse was out there for anyone, the Cards gave him a shot and he has delivered six starts of two runs or less. This is last seasons moneyline with Penny, who has been out-pitched by Lohse on the season, and we'll ride the value, and grab the Cards here.

Results: 4-2
