Baseball Pick - May 16, 2008
Missed on both of our picks yesterday. Today we look to bounce back with four more selections with another 5-unit play. MLB picks are up +19.5 units for 69% (11-5) the last four days.
Today's MLB Baseball Picks:
Game: Washington at Baltimore (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Baltimore -128 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.3)
Washington spoiled the Mets chances to make the playoffs last September, and come back and take three of four in NY. Other than being Met killers the track record on the road for the Nats isn't very impressive. As good as Shawn Hill has pitched for the Nats, Garrett Olson has been better for the O's. Olson is pitching with a DH in the lineup, and has posted an ERA that is better than half a run better than Hill. The O's are getting it done at home, as they are 12-6 at Camden Yard, and we look for them to open interleague play with a win.
Game: Minnesota at Colorado (9:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Colorado -125 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.4)Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 10 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)
When you look at the stats that say the Rockies are 1-7 in Jimenez' eight starts, makes it tough to unload on the Rockies. That is until you look a bit deeper and see that he has allowed three runs or less in seven of the eight! The problem is that the Rockies have had trouble offensively, and have only produced three runs a game for him. Nick Blackburn has done a respectable job for the Twins, but the opponents have averaged 5+ a game in his starts. This looks like the place Jimenez could put together another solid outing and cash in, as the Rockies should have the edge to mount just enough offense to turn those L’s into a W here. This looks like a 5-3 type game for the Rockies and we will also ride the under.
Game: Detroit at Arizona (9:35 PM Eastern)Pick: 5 units on Arizona -130 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 3.9)
What can be said about the Tigers? It has been a colossal struggle all season, in all aspects. This line is based on what the Tigers were supposed to be, not what they are. The Tigers are now just 2-10 in their last 12, and are threatening to become the team with the worst record in baseball. The D-Backs went through a 2-6 spell, but have now reeled off three straight. With Haren on the mound and at home against the struggling Tigers, this line should be more in the 160 range, so we'll take the value and back the D-Backs at home.
Results: 3-1
