Sports Handicapping Free Mlb Picks - May 15, 2008

Hit our 5-unit play yesterday en route to a 2-0, +9.1 unit finish. Over the last three days we are 11-3 (79%) for +27.5 units. Two plays today with an early 5-unit selection.

Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Los Angeles Dodgers at Milwaukee (1:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 5 units on Milwaukee -130 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 3.9)

This game is all about Ben Sheets and more importantly, a healthy Ben Sheets. This guy doesn't get the same credit as other top pitchers in the league, because of his oft-injured status, but he is healthy and when he is, so are his numbers and results. Sheets is carrying a 2.53 ERA into this one which has helped the Brewers to a 5-2 record when he toes the rubber. The Dodgers thought this would be a breakout year for Chad Billingsley, as he has posted a 19-9 mark over the last two years. It does appear the league is gaining on him as he has not been nearly as effective this season, and the Dodgers are winning just 33% of his nine starts. The walks are way up and that is a sure sign of confidence, and trust of his stuff is getting in his head, so we'll take the opportunity to ride the Brew Crew at home in this one.

Game: Pittsburgh at St. Louis (1:15 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on St. Louis -133 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.3)

Joel Pineiro has apparently resurrected his career in St. Louis. He cam up with Seattle and dominated at the start, but then fizzled and was tossed around, but has found a home in St. Louis. Pineiro has really dominated this Pirate lineup as he is 3-0 with a 1.74 ERA against them. Pineiro had a shaky first outing in '08, but has pitched to a 2.73 ERA in his last five, and the Cards have won four straight with him on the hill. Ian Snell won 14 games in '06 and has regressed since then. The Pirates remain a liability to their backers on the road where they have cashed just 7 of 20, while the Cards have been impressive at home with a 15-8 mark. Lots of value on the Cards here and we will back them on their way to another home win.
