Baseball Handicapping - June 30, 2010We look to pick up the pace with our MLB picks, starting with our 5 unit MLB Game of the Month today! We have three picks total including the MLB GOM.
![]() Today's MLB Baseball Picks: The Detroit Tigers have struggled all season long on the road and, with starting a rookie pitcher against a Minnesota team that is tough at home, is a monumental task. Kevin Slowey almost always delivers a well pitched game at home and as a result the Twins are 21-6 in his last 27 starts at home. The Tigers have been at their worst playing on the road as a dog where they are just 19-41 over their last 60 in this spot. They have also begun to struggle against righthand pitching at just 1-6 in their last seven. The Twins have eaten up lefthand pitching and have now put together a 39-15 mark against them at home. A tough spot for a rookie, I'll go with the Twins here.Game: Arizona at St. Louis (2:15 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on St. Louis -140 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 3.6) Arizona already lost the first two in this series and will go with AA call-up Barry Enright. Enright is a second round pick from the 2007 draft and has been pitching at AA Memphis, which is a far cry from facing Albert Puhols and company. The D-Backs are 12-30 on the road this season and have been carried by their offense. The problem is the offense has suffered a brown out and over the last seven games have tallied just 19 runs, less than 3 a game. This team has enough trouble winning on the road when they are scoring. The Diamondbacks are more recently 3-18 in their last 21 road games and, with a lineup in a slump, a AA rookie pitcher doesn't appear to be the solution today. The Cards are tough at home with a 25-12 mark, but even tougher against poor road teams winning less than 40% of the time on the road. The Cards sport a 37-15 mark against these not so road warriors. The D-Backs 8-22 in their last 30 here as well. I'll go with St. Louis in this one.Game: Arizona at St. Louis (2:20 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on St. Louis -1.5 runs +140 (runline) (risk 2 to win 2.8) Albert Puhols belted two HR's last night, the Arizona offense scored nothing and the D-Backs road futility is now showing a 3-18 mark in their last 21. They now summon the services of Barry Enright from AA Memphis to stop the bleeding and I don't think he will fare well here. Arizona is producing less than three runs a game over the last seven. Looking over the last 16 played in St. Louis vs these clubs, the Cards have gone 12-4 and, more importantly, have outscored the D-Backs 89-49, or by 2.5 runs a game. I like St. Louis on the runline. Results: 1-2 ![]() MLB Baseball Picks Resources:
