Baseball Betting Picks - June 12, 2008
3-4 yesterday. We look to bounce back today. We are on an amazing run going up +100 units since May 12. We have 4 picks today.
Today's MLB Baseball Picks:
Game: Washington at Pittsburgh (12:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Pittsburgh -132 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 3)
The Pirates have become a force at home, as they have now gone 15-8 in their last 23 home games. Tom Gorzelanny has had a mediocre year, but always capable of a gem, especially at home where the Pirates are winning 2 of every 3 lately. Washington, at 12-20 on the road has never found any road magic. The offense has produced just 1 run or less in 3 of the last 4, always has been a problem. The Nats have lost 8 of the last 9 of Jason Bergamn's starts, and don't see anything here that says to be otherwise, as the Pirates win at home.
Game: Texas at Kansas City (2:10 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Kansas City -120 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.5)
Texas has made a much better showing than expected, and have to call on minor-leaguer Eric Hurley. Hurley has not been impressive at Oklahoma where he was 2-5 with a 5.30 ERA. Bannister has completed 6 of 7 starts at home allowing 3 runs or less. The Royals have scored an average of 5 runs a game in their last 9 at home, and against a rookie pitcher, that hasn't held AAA teams to below 5 runs a game, more could be in store here, and with Bannister pitching very well at home, like the Royals in this spot.
Game: Texas at Kansas City (2:10 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Kansas City -1.5 runs +162 (runline) (risk 3 to win 4.9)
With all that we said above in our KC pick, we also are adding a runline play here. Bannister has been very tough at home, the KC offense has been producing, and a rookie starter on the road that had marginal success at AAA should provide the ingredients for a comfortable KC win.
Game: Atlanta at Chicago (2:20 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Chicago -135 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.2)
The Cubs at this price at home, and Carlos Zambrano on the mound is just to much to pass on. Zambrano has had a big start at 8-2 3.01 ERA, and the Cubs have been impossible to beat at home at 28-8. Atlanta has Hudson on the mound but a 7-23 road record just shows it doesn't matter. The Braves have fared no better with Hudson on the mound when they take to the road, as they are just 2-5. Hudson also carries a 4.70 ERA vs the Cubs in this one, and we will take the Cubs to get win #29 at home.
Game: San Francisco at Colorado (3:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 9.5 +110 (risk 3 to win 3.3)
Coors Field has long been known for being a launching pad, and even the tamed down version is still a hitters park. Greg Reynolds is pitching to an ERA of 5.24, so he certainly has not had much success getting hitters out in his rookie season. Jonathon Sanchez has also seen 70 runs scored in his 6 road starts, good for nearly 12 a game. The Giants have played 9 of their last 12 under as a dog, which shows when they don't have their top pitchers on the mound the games tend to go over. Jim Reynolds will be behind the plate today and in his last 27 games 20 have gone over, indicating he has a tight strike-zone, so we like over in this one.
Game: St Louis at Cincinnati (7:10 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 9.5 -103 (risk 3 to win 2.9)
Joel Pineiro started his career in Seattle at 37-18, and looked like he was going to become a great pitcher. He is now with his 3rd team in 3 years, and has amassed a record of 30-43, with an ERA of over 5. It just isn't the year for Bronson Arroyo, who is struggling to keep his ERA under 6. Both these pitchers have shown an over trend when the line is in this area, and we will not buck that trend, and play this one over the posted total.
Results: 4-2
