![]() Today's MLB Baseball Picks: The Cards are making a push to not only make the playoffs, but to win it all and the addition of Matt Holliday is just another All-Star piece to add to the puzzle. The Cards have a stable bullpen, and one of the top staffs in baseball and rank No. 3 in overall ERA. They have blown just eight games with their pen, a number bested by just three teams. The Phillies are coming back to Earth after a torrid stretch and have now lost two out of three. Matt Holliday was inserted right behind Pujols last night and immediately paid dividends by delivering four hits. The Cards have struggled against lefthand pitching at 3.7 runs per game, but against righthanders, they are a full run better at 4.7 per game. The Phillies are lethal against lefthanders at 22-11, but have been quite ordinary against righties at 32-29. This is a good spot for a live dog here, so I'll go with the Cards in this one.Game: St. Louis at Philadelphia (4:10 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on St. Louis +1.5 runs -170 (runline) (risk 5 to win 2.9) The Phillies have begun to level off after a mjor hot streak. The Cards meanwhile, are on the rise and have the added bat of Matt Holliday to compliment Pujols and their No. 3 ranked pitching staff. They have an added bonus working in their favor here with Lohse leading them to an 11-5 mark the last 16 he has started as a dog. The Phillies have had a cupcake fest, and have not delivered against the better teams as they are just 3-9 in their last 12 at home against a team with a winning record, and the inconsistent staff is 2-8 after allowing two runs in their previous game. I like the Cards on the runline in this one.Game: Minnesota at Los Angeles Angels (4:15 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Los Angeles Angels -1.5 runs +170 (runline) (risk 3 to win 5.1) The Angels have gotten healthier as the year has progressed, and it has certainly showed up in the won/loss column. The Angels are playing about as good as anyone right now, and have put the last seven in the win column as well as 11 of their last 12. This team has not only been winning, but winning big as they are 16-4 in their last 20 wins to a would be -1.5 runline. The Twins have always been a tough out at home, but have surrendered to defeat on the road with regularity. They have already dropped the first two here, making the tally five of their last six in the loss column on this road trip. Blackburn has struggled of late, but that isn't even the start of the story. The Twins are 0-11 in his last 11 road starts against a team with a winning record. The Angels reach the boiling point off of a win as they are now 22-5 after putting one in the win column. The Halos are too hot to handle right now, against a struggling road team. The Angels get the nod on the runline.Game: San Diego at Washington (7:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Washington -110 (moneyline) (risk 2 to win 1.8) The San Diego Padres opened some eyes when they got out of the gate at 9-3, especially when they won four of their first five on the road. What has happened since then is pretty pathetic as the Padres have fallen hard and fast, as their road tally stands at a miserable 9-32 in their last 41. The Padres have sunk to even new lows overall at 4-17 in their last 21 games. The Nats certainly haven't been world beaters themselves, but certainly look like the better club here, especially at home against a team that is 15-44 against a righthand starter in their last 59 on the road. This one is posted at basically even odds on the moneyline and when you put it all together, the Padres at 9-32 in their last 41 on the road, simply don't belong in that odds grouping. The value is on the Nats and I will ride them here. Results: 2-2 ![]() MLB Baseball Picks Resources:
