Baseball Free Picks - July 24, 2007
We went 1-2 yesterday, dropping 3 units. Tonight we have three picks...
Today's MLB Baseball Picks:
Game: Boston at Cleveland (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Boston +105 (risk 4 to win 4.2)
The Red Sox have not played well for nearly two months but that wasn't going to continue forever. They are now poised to run off some wins. The pitching has been steady all season and now the offense is in high gear. The Indians are now just 7-9 in their last 16, with pitching the problem. The Indians were out-hitting their pitching early, but now they haven't been able to keep up. The Tribe has allowed 5.6 rpg over these last 16 games. C.C. Sabathia is definately going through a dead arm period. While the Indians won 12 of his first 13 starts, they have now lost 4 of his last 7. Sabathia in his last 47.1 innings has allowed 62 hits and has pitched to a 5.32 ERA. The last time the Sox faced him in Cleveland they put up 9 earned runs and chased him in the 5th inning. Ramirez has worn him out and he is also on a tear right now. He has been 10-18 .556 with 4 HR'S. The Sox starters hit Sabathia at a .350 clip, so he has been no mystery to them. The bullpen yields a decided advantage to the Sox here as well as Joe Borowski is pitching to a 5.12 ERA. And the Sox as a team hit him at a .450 clip. We'll ride the dog that is red-hot vs. a cold pitcher, and a decided bullpen advantage.
Game: New York Yankees at Kansas City (8:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on New York Yankees -1.5 -157 (risk 4 to win 2.6)
It isn't too often we find value on the Yankees, but right now they are as hot as any team has been offensively in a long time. Their last 43 games has produced 6.2 rpg, and recently they have been scoring runs in bunches. The last 28 wins have seen their winning margin average an unbelievable 5.3 rpg. They aren't just winning, they are destroying teams, making the -1.5 runl-ine especially attractive. Their record in the process to the -1.5 run-line has been 24-4. Elarton is pitching to an ERA of 9+, and the way this Yankee team is swinging the bats, it could be another double digit game for them. Wang has been steady all season, and pitches deep into games. Vizcaino and Rivera have been giving up nothing late.
Game: Chicago Cubs at St. Louis (8:10 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on Chicago Cubs -134 (risk 4 to win 3)
Everyone wondered what was wrong with Carlos Zambrano after he completed May with an ERA of 5.63. He has answered those questions. Zambrano has been the top pitcher in baseball since then. He has worked 63 innings yielding just 30 hits, opponents hitting just .155 against him, and his ERA has been 1.43. It has vaulted him to the NL lead in wins. What may be even worse news for St. Louis is that when he was pitching poorly he held them to 1 run in 7 innings earlier in the season. Kip Wells has pitched much better, but it hasn't helped to put the Cardinals in the win column. The Cards are a woeful 4-17 in his starts. The Cardinals have allowed 10 runs or more in 12 of their 50 losses and the Cubs are playing over .600 baseball for the past 40 games.
