Premium Picks

Game: Pittsburgh at Milwaukee (8:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on Milwaukee -139 (risk 200 to win 144)

The worst road team in the leauge goes tonight here with Pittbsugh. The starting pitching matchup is close to a wash as both Zach Duke and Dough Davis are under .500 with average overall ERAs and 6+ ERAs over their last three starts. But give the edge to Davis and the Brewers as he's got a better home ERA (3.73) than does Duke on the road (4.77). And, Davis is a lefty and that doesn't bode well for the Pirates who are just 6-27 vs. lefties this season. But, the big edge here is location. At home Milwaukee is 29-20. On the road Pittsburgh is 11-39. Brewers here.

Game: Minnesota at Chicago White Sox (8:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on Minnesota +122 (risk 200 to win 244)

The Twins are closing in on the White Sox as they've come storming out of the All Star break on a 9-1 tear. They've even shown some strength on the road taking 2 of 3 from Cleveland. They can build on this momentum tonight when they send Brad Radke to the mound. He's got a 3.32 ERA over his last three starts as compared to 6.75 for Javier Vazquez. Underdogs that are batting .300 or better over their last 15 games are 54-33 (62%) in July games over the past five seasons. And, home favorites of up to -150 with an on base percentage of .300 or worse over their last 10 games are just 13-34 (28%) in July games over the past decade. Hot Twins here.
(34-13 since 1997.) (72.3%

Game: St. Louis at Colorado (9:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 stars on St. Louis -126 (risk 200 to win 159)

The Cards have won 11 of their last 13 games and own a 5-1 mark vs. the Rockies this season. The Rockies have the better starter in Jeff Francis here but I'm not sure it's going to matter. They just can't seem to find a way to win lately (5-13 in July) and St. Louis is again knocking the cover of the ball. They beat the LAD by a combined score of 14-2 in their last series and are averaging 5.9 runs per game over their last seven games. Not good for Colorado who are 1-9 in the second half of this season vs. teams scoring 4.8+ runs per game. Cards here.

How much to bet? I recommend 1% of your bankroll for every star. A one-star pick = 1% of bankroll. A five-star pick = 5% of bankroll. It is strongly recommended that you never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on any given game! Remember, there are no such thing as locks. Never bet over your head and you'll live to see another day. Approach your bets as an investment that grows steadily over the long-term. For more, see my write-up on Bankroll Management.
