Baseball Betting Free Pick - July 21, 2007

2-1 yesterday for another MLB winner. We have had only two losing days in the last eight, good for 67% (16-8) for +20 units over the last eight days.

Three more selections today with two afternoon games and one runline play from the Kansas City vs. Detroit game.

Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Arizona at Chicago Cubs (1:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Chicago Cubs -167 (risk 3 to win 1.8)

No one is hotter than the Cubs right now. Lou Pinella went into one of his tirades, got ejected and the Cubs have responded by going a major league best 19-5. The pitching has been outstanding allowing just over three runs a game in their last 16, while the offense has produced six a game over the last 12. That is what winning streaks are all about. The D-Backs looked like they were the best in the West when they carried a 36-24 record through 60 games, but have since fallen flat. They have managed just four wins in their last 17 games, and are in danger of falling under .500. The D-Backs have managed to plate just 62 runs in their last 20 games, or just over three a game. They have at the same time given up 102, or over five a game. Tough to find the win column. Micah Owings was sailing along smoothly, but simply lost it all together. The D-Backs have lost his last five starts, and have been out-scored 42-10! Rich Hill has deserved better, having pitched 11 quality starts out of 18. These teams are just on two different tracks right now, and we will ride the scorching Cubs, vs. the fading D-backs.

Game: Seattle at Toronto (1:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Seattle +114 (risk 3 to win 3.4)

We talked about how bad Toronto has fared against RHP this season when we rode the Mariners yesterday. Nothing has changed. Well, actually one thing has - add another for the loss column against righties. The Jays are struggling right now, having produced just 14 runs in their last six games. Josh Towers lost his spot in the rotation, but he was not good in the pen either, so he is back in the rotation - only he has been even worse this time around. He has provided just three quality starts out of 11. His ERA is close to five and a half, and with a Jays team struggling to find runs, especially against righties, that will be hard to overcome. Seattle just keeps on winning. They have sandwiched two long runs in-between an 0-6 slide. They were 16-5 before, and now have been 19-7 since, or 35-12 outside of the little bump. Jeff Weaver has given them six out of his last seven as quality starts after a horrible start. Hard to pass up a hot team with all the advantages as a dog, especially against a cold offense.

Game: Kansas City at Detroit (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Detroit -1.5 +100 (risk 3 to win 3)

The Tigers have dominated all season, but when they face a LHP, they take it to another level. They have gone 20-7 or won just about 75% of the time. It is a lineup that features 10 players hitting .280 or higher, and produces 6.4-runs per game (RPG). Justin Verlander is having a breakout season, and the Tigers have won 18 of his last 25 home starts or again, close to 75%. Jorge DelaRosa pitched to a 6.50 ERA last season, first with the Brewers, and then with the Royals. He started this year, as if he had turned the corner, pitching to a 3.55 ERA into mid-May. He has since regressed and returned to his normal expectation. He has pitched 52 innings and allowed 114 runners to reach base since, with an ERA of 7.44. The Royals need plenty of runs in his starts, and have won just one time since mid-May with him on the hill when they don't score 10+ runs! The Royals are an improved team, but they still have a long way to go. They have lost 40 times in their 53 losses by 2+ runs. There is that 75%+ number again. We have a lot of signals pointing to this not being a competitive game, and throw in the fact that the Tigers are on a roll winning 23 of 34 doesn't hurt either.

Results: 1-2
