Today's MLB Baseball Picks:
Game: Arizona at Milwaukee (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Milwaukee -136 (risk 3 to win 2.2)
Arizona is ice cold right now having lost seven of their last nine. Milwaukee has won three in a row. Both pitchers are suspect. Yusmeiro Petit has only thrown 17 innings. Claudio Vargas has been pretty bad his last three starts. But, we trust Vargas more. He's got a 4.52 ERA (4.15 at home) and a 6-2 overall record (perfect 4-0 at home). The Brewers are 12-3 this season when he takes the mound. Thanks to good run support, he doesn't lose often. The Brew Crew averages 5.1 runs per game and they are 33-14 at home this season. Arizona has no run support. They average a paltry 3.9 runs per game on the road on .239 hitting. They are averaging only 3.4 per game their last seven games. The Brewers have power (1.4 HRs per game) and that spells trouble for the D-Backs. Arizona is 9-24 the past two seasons vs. teams that hit 1.25+ home runs per game. Milwaukee also has the bullpen advantage, in case Vargas' slump isn't quite over. At home, their pen has a 3.10 ERA and 83% save percentage. It doesn't get much better than that. Milwaukee absolutely thrives against poor hitting opponents. This season they are 17-2 at home vs. NL teams batting .255 or worse and 19-3 at home vs. NL teams with an OBP under .330! Lots of ways for Milwuakee to win this one and few for Arizona.
Game: New York Mets at San Diego (10:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on San Diego -152 (risk 3 to win 2)
The Mets are simply not the same team over the last month and a half that they were in the first month and a half. The Mets got off to a 33-17 start and looked like they were going to blow away the NL. They averaged 5.1 runs per game over those 50 games. Then the wheels fell off. In their last 42 games, the Mets have gone 18-24 and the offense has lost nearly a run and a half per game. They have averaged just 3.67 runs per game in those 42 games. If not for an included streak of 8-1 they are just 10-23. They have the difficult task of facing Jake Peavy who has allowed 1 run or less in 56% of his 18 starts. He has not allowed more than 4 runs all season. Peavy pitches deep into games. And, the Mets have done nothing with Trevor Hoffman, as the current Mets have a combined .175 average against him. Padres make it two in a row.
Game: Philadelphia at Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Los Angeles Dodgers -138 (risk 3 to win 2.2)
The Dodgers have rattled off five straight wins and in the process, have out-scored the opposition 41-19. Everything is clicking. LA's offense has been on a serious roll. They have produced 127 runs in their last 21 games, good for 6 runs per game. That spells trouble for spot starter J.D. Durbin. Durbin allowed 6 runs to a cold Mets team in his only other start and has been ineffective all season. His body of work comprises 10 innings with 18 hits and 9 BB's. Mark Hendrickson lost his spot in the rotation, but has since pitched well. The Phillies are among the Major League worst teams vs. LHP, as they have been a profit-eating 11-19. The Phillies are just 5-9 in their last 14 games, and the bullpen is over-worked after two straight games of 10+ runs. Durbin is not the type of pitcher to go deep into a game, so we expect a hot Dodgers offense to pour it on again tonight.
Results: 1-2

The Blue Jays have a 49-18, 73.1% record whenever Roy Halladay takes the mound. It is unusual to see him as an underdog, as since the 2005 season, this will be just the fifth time. The Jays are 4-0 in...
