Mlb Pick - August 29, 2008
We split last night's picks for a slight gain. Over the last week and a half, our MLB picks are hitting at 59% (17-12) for +11.8 units. Today we feature two MLB nightcap picks.
Today's MLB Baseball Picks:
Game: Minnesota at Oakland (10:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Minnesota -1.5 runs +100 (runline) (risk 3 to win 3)
The Twins are in a battle in the AL Central and are just 1.5 games in back of the White Sox, and are chasing the Red Sox for the wildcard as well. Kevin Slowey has been masterful of late for the Twins. Slowey has won four of his last five decisions and has allowed two runs or less in six of his last seven starts. He should continue that success as the A's offense has averaged less than three runs a game for the entire month of August. Dan Meyer has yet to taste victory in the big leagues and has a combined 0-4 record with a hefty 6.87 ERA. That includes 10 relief appearances and five starts. It will be a battle for the light-hitting A's to stay in this game against a hot pitcher, with a pitcher that has not had any success at the big league level. We like the Twins on the runline here.
Game: Colorado at San Diego (10:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 2 units on Colorado -1.5 runs -105 (runline) (risk 2 to win 1.9)
Are the Rockies poised for another late season run in the NL West? Arizona has lost four straight and the Dodgers seven straight while the Rockies continue to creep up in the standings. The Rockies have gotten to within six games due to a 9-3 run over their last 12 games. Aaron Cook has already won 15 games for the sub-.500 Rockies, and has been their best pitcher on the season. Cook has owned the Padres. Cook has pitched five shut-out innings this season, and has a career 10-4 mark with a nifty 2.73 ERA over his career against the Padres. Dirk Hayhurst has been used mostly as a reliever, and in his only start allowed three runs in just four innings. The Rockies are on the move, with their best pitcher, against a rookie that has seen most of his work out of the pen. We like the Rockies on the runline here.
