Mlb Game Predictions - August 28, 2007
Tough day yesterday. Today we come back with three picks.
Today's MLB Baseball Picks:
Game: New York Mets at Philadelphia (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Philadelphia +112 (risk 4 to win 4.5)
The Mets were 8-2 in Glavine's first 10 starts but have gone just 8-9 in his last 17, while his ERA has risen a full run at the same time. The Mets are just 23-31 vs. teams with a winning record since May 23rd and have now lost two in a row and 4 of 6. The Philly offense has come alive. After scoring just 10 runs in four games, they have now scored 23 in their last two. Adam Eaton certainly doesn't look like a pitcher that will get your attention, unless he is facing the Mets. He has beaten them twice this season allowing just 2 runs in each start. Eaton has never lost to the Mets, as he is 5-0 with a career 1.79 ERA against them. This is a crucial game for the Phillies, as they attempt to narrow the deficit. Phil's make it two in a row.
Game: Detroit at Kansas City (8:10 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on Kansas City +102 (risk 4 to win 4.1)
Nate Robertson has really struggled. The Tigers are just 8-15 on the season in games started by Robertson, and just 5-12 in his last 17 starts. The Tigers looked like they were going to run away with everything early in the season, but things have changed. They are just 14-24 in their last 38 games. Robertson in his last 95 innings has allowed 125 hits and 33 BB's - a total of 158 base runners. It has led to a 5.78 ERA. He has also pitched very poorly on the road, as the Tigers are just 1-7 in his last eight road starts. The Royals will have Brian Bannister on the hill and he has become their ace. Bannister did not record his first win until June 1, but since then the Royals are 11-4 in his starts. The last 12 times he has taken the hill with the Royals scoring more than 1 run, KC has gone 12-0. Bannister's last 100 innings have been as good as anyone in the league, as he has pitched to a 2.86 ERA as he has really matured into an outstanding pitcher. We will ride the Royals to take the opener.
Game: Arizona at San Diego (10:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on San Diego +138 (risk 4 to win 5.5)
Brandon Webb saw his scoreless inning streak come to a close in the first inning of his last start. It has been quite a run. He has pitched so well for so long, it is just not likely for any pitcher, of any ability, to keep putting up 0's on the scoreboard. San Diego is a team that can win without scoring much, because they have the top ranked bullpen in the NL. They have already posted five wins on the season in games where they have scored just 1 run, and have won 20 games on the season when they score 3 runs or less. Arizona had been on a 21-5 streak, but have since lost that many games in their last eight, so they are on a downward cycle. The Padres have now won 5 of 6, and are on an up-turn. Justin Germano started the season fast, hit a bump, and has now pitched well in his last four games. He is more than capable of winning a low scoring game. We like the Padres to make it two straight.
