Sports Handicapping Free Mlb Picks - August 27, 2008

We split our four picks yesterday to give back about one unit. Our MLB plays are up +18.5 units and are 16-8 for 67% over the last week. Today we are back with a trio of MLB plays.

Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Boston at New York Yankees (7:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 units on New York Yankees -118 (moneyline) (risk 2 to win 1.7)

Boston is trying to put the nail in the coffin of their hated rivals. But we think New York pride steps up tonight. Six games back of the Sox, New York simply must win here to keep reasonable hopes alive. The Yankees hit rock bottom last night with A-Rod going 0-for-5 and losing 7-3. That's why we like them here. They face a losing pitcher in Paul Byrd who hasn't looked good since being acquired from the Indians. Despite last night's seven-run performance, the Red Sox average just 4.6 runs per game on the road this season, on their way to a losing record. They are 24-31 on the road against RHP and really should be a bigger dog here. We'll take the Yankees at the short price in the must-win.

Milwaukee is on fire. They have won five straight and absolutely destroyed the birds 12-0 last night in convincing fashion. This team appears to be on a mission to hold on to their wild card advantage. They will face Adam Wainright and we still don't trust his sprained finger. We'll instead back Manny Parra who is 10-6 with a solid 4.10 ERA. The Brew Crew has the same number of wins on the road as St. Louis does at home, and Milwaukee is playing with confidence and purpose while St. Louis is not. The Brewers are 18-11 this season on the road vs. division foes and we like their chance at getting another win here.

Los Angeles gets Vladimir Guerrero and Garret Anderson back tonight. The offensive boost comes none to soon as they have really struggled to score runs of late. Joe Saunders (14-6 with a 3.37 ERA) will be hurling for LA. He's posted a 1.26 ERA in two starts against the Athletics this season. Oakland has real trouble against southpaws like Saunders as they average just 3.4 runs per game against LHP. They are just 3-14 this season on the run line against pitchers with an ERA of 3.50 or better. We'll take Los Angeles to post another 2+ run win.
