Mlb Predictions - August 25, 2008
We nailed another winning day yesterday as our MLB picks finished 2-1 for +6.1 units. The win included a +171 dog winner on the Giants runline to push our six-day run to 67% (12-6) for +15 units. Today we feature two more picks.
Today's MLB Baseball Picks:
Game: Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Philadelphia -111 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Well you know what they say about payback. The Dodgers swept the Phillies just two short weeks ago in LA, and the Phillies are ready to return the favor. They have taken the first three games in this series and will start Brett Myers tonight. The Phillies have won six of seven with a staff ERA of 1.80 over those seven games. Myers appeared lost early in the year and even accepted a demotion to get his mechanics ironed out. Since his return he has been the Myers of old as he has made six starts pitching to a 1.94 ERA. The Dodgers’ offense is struggling right now scoring just 14 times in their last six games. This is a great spot for a rejuvenated pitcher and a team hungry to return a favor, and even lay claim to the lead in the NL East. We like the Phillies for the sweep.
Game: Arizona at San Diego (10:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 2 units on Game Total UNDER 6.5 -110 (risk 2 to win 1.8)
Two of the top pitchers this season square off in San Diego tonight as the Diamondbacks send Dan Haren against the Padres’ Jake Peavy. These pitchers have combined to start 48 games, and in 34 of them they have failed to give up more than three runs in that start or 71% of the time. This is a punchless Padres team that has produced three runs or less against any pitcher 73 times this season, so it isn't far fetched to see them get shutout here as they have already been shutout 10 times on the season. Arizona isn't exactly an offensive machine either as they have produced three runs or less 52 times this season. These teams score three runs in 40.4% of all their games and now they each will face a top pitcher. This situation certainly bodes well for each to add another outing below three runs. As a result we like the UNDER here.
