Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Florida at San Francisco (3:45 PM Eastern)

Josh Johnson has really given the Marlins’ staff a lift, as witnessed by his 3-0 record and 3.38 ERA. Even better, is that the Marlins have been victorious in six of his seven starts. It won't be easy for the Giants either, as Johnson has made two starts in his career against the Giants, and has pitched to a 1.93 ERA. That puts a lot of pressure on Matt Palmer who was horrible in his debut giving up six runs and lasting just 2.1 innings. Palmer was completely unnerved, as he walked four and hit a batter, coming away from the game with a lofty 23.14 ERA. The Marlins need this one to stay in the race, and the right ingredients are in place to get the win and the series win.

The way that Matt Palmer made his debut, you could tell he was a complete a bundle of nerves on the mound. So how do you come back from that after getting shelled? He is now nervous and has zero confidence to boot. Johnson has pitched superbly, so we will ride the Marlins on the runline as well here.

This game may be one for the ages. This is probably the most mismatched teams and pitchers possible. Brandon Webb should have won his second straight Cy Young award last year when he posted a career high in wins. It seems like he has been pitching with a chip on his shoulder this year and will look for win 19 today. Could a Cy Young award win happen this season? Webb is 7-0 with a 2.28 record over his last 10 starts and will be facing perhaps the worst offensive team in the NL. He will square off against a rookie pitcher who will be pitching on the road for the first time. This start comes after allowing three runs in five innings at home in his major league debut for a 5.40 ERA. The D-backs have got it going, while the Padres never got it going this year. A Webb shutout is not out of the realm of reality, so we like the D-Backs on the runline here.
