Baseball Betting Picks - August 16, 2007
We hit two of three yesterday. Today we like two underdogs...
Today's MLB Baseball Picks:
Game: St. Louis at Milwaukee (2:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on St. Louis +100 (risk 4 to win 4)
Don't look now but the St. Louis Cardinals are just two games back in the loss column and this is a huge game for them today. The Cards have won six of seven and have taken the first two in this series. Adam Wainwright has been their most consistent pitcher and since mid May. He has delivered quality starts in 10 of his 15 outings, having pitched to a 3.27 ERA in his last 100 innings of work. The Brewers have really skidded out of control. They dominated early at home, but have now just won four of their last eleven in Milwaukee and are just 6-14 in their last 20. The pitching has been brutal, as the staff has allowed 127 runs in the last 17 games good for an unbelievable 7.47 runs a game. That spells trouble, as the Cardinals have allowed just 13 runs in their last seven, and Wainwright has been their best. Cards get to within 1 in the loss column.
Game: Cincinnati at Chicago Cubs (2:20 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on Cincinnati +142 (risk 4 to win 5.7)
The Cubs have been on a serious slide and have lost eight of their last ten. It is no coincidence that the slide began when Alfonso Soriano went down with an injury. Soriano completed his first two months as a Cub with just four HR'S and 12 RBI'S. The Cubs were eight games under .500. Then he caught fire and the Cubs did as well, as he blasted 14 HR'S over the next two months hitting .308 in the process. It is no secret the Cubs struggle vs. LHP and stand just 10-18 on the season. The Cubs pound RHP to the tune of over 5 runs per game, but against LHP they score just 3.3 a game. They are just 2-7 in their last nine vs. lefties, and a team average of .246 on the season (with just 21 HR's)is the reason why. To put that .246 team average in perspective, they have 13 players hitting .266 or higher vs. RHP, so that's 13 players over their combined team average vs. LHP! That is why Soriano is an integral part of the offense. The Reds, generally have an awful record without Harang on the mound, but there is one exception. They are 5-3 with Livingston on the hill, the only other pitcher they sport a .500+ record in his starts. The Reds have a much better record of late, and are a vastly improved team from the beginning of the season. They stand at 23-19 over their last 42, and are certainly capable of getting the sweep here.
Results: 1-1

Arizona got trounced in game one 14-5. We like them to come back and win as a dog tonight. They have still won 17 of their last 22 games and cling to the division lead over San Diego. We like Doug Dav...

Look at the records and this looks like a mismatch in favor of the Angels. But look closer at the records and it looks like a mismatch the other way. The Angels have the second best record in baseball...

Pittsburgh has to be confident here after sweeping the Giants at AT&T, while outscoring them 26-10 in the process. They handled San Francisco on the road, and they can definitely handle them here ...

Jake Peavy went through a dead-arm period as most pitchers do. Even with that, he has not allowed more than four runs in a start all season. He's back on track as he's allowed no more than one...
