Free Mlb Predictions - August 10, 2008

We hit with Cleveland as a 2-to-1 dog yesterday but it wasn't enough to overcome a 2-3 day overall as we dropped two and a half units. Today we have five picks...

Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Boston at Chicago White Sox (2:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Chicago White Sox -116 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.6)

We were on the Red Sox last night as they notched the win. We're flipping over to Chicago for game three in this four game series. Yesterday's loss was costly for Chicago as they lost Jose Contreras for the season. They also lost their lead in the division and we expect them to come out fighting today. Gavin Floyd is 11-6 with a 3.66 ERA. At home he's 7-2 with a 2.93 ERA, giving up just 4.5 hits per start! Boston throws Clay Buchholz, and his 7.68 road ERA and 0-5 record to the wolves here. With him on the mound, Boston is just 3-10 this season and 1-8 on the road the past two seasons. The White Sox average 5.7 runs per game at home this season and against Buchholz they will get their 5+. The Red Sox are just 2-11 this season on the road against a starter who gives up less than six hits per start this season. We feel blessed to get such a short line here, given this pitching matchup and we're jumping on it.

Game: Washington at Milwaukee (2:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Milwaukee -172 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 1.7)
Milwaukee is on fire right now having won four in a row, outscoring foes 25-4 in the process. Their bullpen has been forced to play just four innings over the span so they are obviously very fresh. This afternoon they go up against the worst team in the league. The Nats are 44-73 and just 21-40 on the road, scoring a paltry 3.8 runs per game. The Brewers are 22-3 the past two seasons at home against teams with an OBP of .315 or worse. The Nationals are just 16-40 this season in expected low-scoring games (totals posted under nine). They are also 2-14 after getting shut out. We'll take the Brewers in what should be an easy one for them.

Game: Washington at Milwaukee (2:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Milwaukee -1.5 runs +127 (runline) (risk 3 to win 3.8)
We can't resist taking the Brew Crew at the -1.5 line either. Washington is 18-25 to the run line against LHP this season. They are also 8-18 to the run line after a game in which they scored under two runs. Over the past two seasons, Milwuaukee is 17-8 vs. the run line against teasm that average under 3.9 runs per game. We like Milwaukee to win by 2+ in this one.

Game: New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels (3:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Los Angeles Angels -127 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.4)

The changing of the guard in the AL is front-and-center in this series as Los Angeles looks to sweep the Yankees. Their back-to-back wins have solidified their record as the best in the league and have put the Yankees’ playoff hopes in danger. Los Angeles is playing with a ton of confidence right now, especially after yesterday's beat-down. Joe Saunders gets the call and he's been amazing in '08. He's posted a 14-5 record with a three ERA. He hasn't surrendered more than three earned runs in over a month. The Yankees have shown they just can't do much on the road against the good teams. Meanwhile the Angels are 37-19 this season vs. winning teams. Saunders is 15-5 over winning teams dating back to last season. LA is 40-25 this season to a line of -100 to -150 and 21-8 against LHP, and we like them to get the win here.

Game: Tampa Bay at Seattle (4:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Tampa Bay -132 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.3)

With a win here, the Tampa Bay Rays will set the franchise record for wins. Given that it's not even mid-August that says a lot about the tear this team is on this season. The same can't be said for Seattle who is just 45-72 on the year. Over their past seven games, the Rays are averaging 5.7 runs per game. Seattle just doesn't have the offense to stay in this one - not against Edwin Jackson. Jackson is 4-2 on the road this year with a 3.70 ERA. He's opposed by R.A. Dickey who has an 0-4 home record with a 6.75 ERA. This is a small price given the vast differences between these two teams.

Results: 4-1
