Free Mlb Predictions - August 08, 2008

Today we are back on the MLB diamond with three premium plays. Over the last four days our MLB picks are 7-6 for +2.4 units.

Last night we won our first pick of the NFL preseason and have three more selections to round out week 1. Get the rest of week 1 as well as our NFL Early-Bird season special here.

Our NFL preseason picks went 12-6 (67%) last year and are 69-44 (61%) for +45.6 units ($4,560 for $100 players) the past six seasons.

Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: St Louis at Chicago (2:20 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Chicago -160 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 1.9)

Like any good team the Cubs are prone to having a "hiccup" during the course of a 162-game season and they have experienced theirs. The Cubs went 15-18 for a stretch, but the before and after mark is an impressive 54-28. The home record during the little hiccup was just 7-6, and sandwiched around that is an impressive 36-10 mark. So when we see around 1.5-1 odds for them at home. The Cubbies have won nine of their last 11 and are back on track, so this game is chock full of value in our eyes. The Cubs bring Ted Lilly to the mound who got off to a horrendous start, but the Cubs have now been 13-5 in his last 18 starts including 8-1 in his last nine at home, and things look even better. Brandon Looper has made only two starts on the road against a team with a winning record and the Cards have dropped both games. We like the Cubs in this one at home.

Game: Boston at Chicago (8:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Boston -110 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

Jon Lester continues to impress and as the season winds on he seems to mature and get better with every start, as evidenced by the BoSox 10-1 record over his last 11 starts. Those 11 starts show nine games in which the opponent did not score more than three runs for the game, so it certainly puts the Sox in strong position to find the win column. Mark Buerhle has not been impressive this season. Even less so lately as he carries a 7.02 ERA over his last three starts into this one and the White Sox are just 10-13 in his 23 starts this season. The Red Sox have also done damage against LHP where they stand at 17-8 on the season, and we will back them on the road in this one.

Game: Atlanta at Arizona (9:40 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Arizona -115 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.6)

The road has not been kind to this Atlanta team where they have a 20-37 mark, just one more win than the lowly Padres have managed on the highway. Arizona has finally pushed over the .500 mark. They have gotten there by going 11-6 in their last 17 so they have played much better lately. The Braves at 13-21 over their last 34 have played themselves out of contention, even for a wildcard, and are now playing out the string for '08 - a rare position for them to be in. Jorge Campillo came roaring out of the pen to rescue the Braves’ staff with the Braves winning his first four starts, but the honeymoon ended quickly as the Braves are now just 4-7 in his last 11 starts, including just 2-4 on the road. We will take the resurgent D-backs to win at home tonight.

Results: 1-2
