Today's MLB Baseball Picks:

Game: Boston at Baltimore (7:00 PM Eastern)

Boston has really struggled out of the gate, but they have turned things around right? Well, maybe not so much. Sure, they just swept Toronto, but the Jays own the worst record in the league. I am not sure if Boston is really to a point yet where they should be laying so much on the road. Baltimore has their issues, but tonight they have Hernandez on the mound and he has done well in his starts, including posting a 3.00 ERA in his lone home start this season. John Lackey has been mediocre at best, posting a 5.09 ERA on the season (6.88 in his last three starts). The Red Sox are just 11-20 since last season on the road vs. poor hitting teams like the O's (teams batting .265 or worse). I like the value fading Boston here. I also like the UNDER. Boston is 5-3 UNDER on the road this season and 17-5 UNDER since last season on the road after a game in which they scored 2 or fewer runs. Baltimore is 13-8 UNDER overall including 9-5 UNDER vs. RHP and 11-4 UNDER in night games. 

The Red Sox are simply not right this year. They may eventually right this ship, but asking them to win by 2+ on the road at this point is asking a lot. When facing RHP this season, the Red Sox are 3-11 to the runline. They are 3-12 to the runline in night games and 2-11 vs. division opponents. And, they are 4-16 this season to the runline when the total is set in this range (8.5 to 10). John Lackey has been shelled this year. In his last three starts he has given up 26 hits and 13 runs in 17 innings on the mound. I'm fading Boston here and will back Baltimore +1.5 runs.

Wow. The Dodgers lost to Pittsburgh last night. It was their fifth loss in a row. After being blanked last night, they have now scored 3 or fewer runs in seven of their last twelve games. Over their past seven games LA has averaged 1.9 runs per game! The Pirates have scored 3 or fewer in eight of their last ten games! You can see which direction this is going. Since last season, the Pirates are 32-15 UNDER after playing four straight road games. That includes a 28-7 UNDER mark after five straight on the road and 17-4 UNDER after six in a row on the road. Over that same span, the Dodgers are 26-10 UNDER at home to a total in this range (8.5 to 10). I like this one to go UNDER.
