Horse Racing System - September 28, 2008Congratulations to "Curlin" and all the people associated with him on a job well done in winning yesterday's $750,000 "Jockey Club Gold Cup" (G1) at Belmont Park to become North America's all-time leading money winning thoroughbred. In doing so he passed "Cigar" and went well over the $10,000,000 mark in earnings. Also, "Zenyatta" made it look easy as she remained undefeated in winning the "Lady's Secret" stakes at Santa Anita, defeating a very good runner in "Hystericalady" in the process. Today, we have a total of four races from Belmont Park for selections and analysis. Today's Best Bet is #8 Ofcr. Sheila T Rex in Race #4 at Belmont Park. Saturday's Results: Belmont Park Race #5 Trifecta (6-4-1a) $74.00. Belmont Park Race #10 Top Pk. #5 (Curlin) $2.80. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #4 (PULPITINA) - Showed a lot of promise last season at two, but did not transfer it when she came back earlier this season. She's been freshened up for the past two months and is working sharply for her return. 2nd pick: #3 (Itobe) - Excellent maiden win on this surface Sept. 7. Tracked a fast pace, took over when asked and drew clear without any problems. Fast work since says she's feeling fine. 3rd pick: #2 (Holistic) - Big maiden win in January at Oaklawn in her first start of '08. Connections threw her right into a stakes and she tired badly after pressing the pace. Very capable trainer (Dan Peitz) brings her back off some sharp works. 4th pick: #1 (Turn Away) - Highly thought of when she first came to the races. Filly hasn't raced since mid-January, but is in the barn of the patient Bob Frankel. Some of her works are very fast. BELMONT PARK Race #4 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (OFCR. SHEILA T REX) - Daughter of "Officer" finished a strong second two back for $35,000 at this distance at Saratoga. Tried tougher on the turf last out and will be switching back to the dirt and dropping to $25K. The horse to beat. 2nd pick: #7 (Marian B) - Makes her third start off a seven-month layoff and will be dropping in class and going turf to dirt. Win contender. 3rd pick: #6 (Chernobyl Princess) - Improved speed noted in last with the addition of blinkers and lasix. Race was her first in two months and she should improve. 4th pick: #10 (Cream Top) - First timer is owned and bred by Mrs. Allen Jerkens (a.k.a. Hardwicke Stables). Latest drill is fine and this field does not go very deep. BELMONT PARK Race #6 at 3:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #9 (CHANCED) - Lots of speed to the inside of this consistent stalker. She draws a nice post for the distance and can win this with a move around the far turn. 2nd pick: #2 (Vicarious) - Improving at this stage and it's coincided with the addition of lasix three back. Stalker draws the rail and is a late threat for the top prize. 3rd pick: #6 (Swept the Series) - Frsehened up for the past six weeks after a poor try at Saratoga. Has some speed and is working well for the comebacker. 4th pick: #3 (Madame Commander) - Continues to plug along at this condition and has enough finishing punch to hit the board. Anything more than a minor award would be a surprise. 5th pick: #4 (Chicks Are Better.) - Both starts are strong. Broke her maiden in an "off the turf" event last out at Saratoga over a pretty watered down field. May be overbet a bit in her first try against winners. BELMONT PARK Race #10 at 5:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #5 (RANGER JAMES) - The horse to beat if race stays on the grass. Lightly raced and improving, he'll race with blinkers on today in an effort to push him "over the top". The choice for the maiden win. 2nd pick: #6 (Winloc's Saint Ray) - His three turf starts are all acceptable. Has speed/stalking ability and will be in this from start to finish. 3rd pick: #7 (Burnished Copper) - He's finished second in his last three starts, all on the turf at this distance. He's raced well on this course in the past (4-0-1-2) and it's hard to imagine him not being in this at the finish. 4th pick: #9 (Slick Wheelie) - Improving, has some speed, draws a nice post, and will try the grass for the first time. Special Race Notes: Selections if this race is run on the main track are: #9-Slick Wheelie #10-Malibu Garden #12-Gimme Getme #15-Annie's Wheel Horse Racing Picks Resources:
