Best Horse Racing Systems - September 14, 2008Impressive race by "Big Brown" in his turf debut, as he dug in gamely and held off some very good "grass" veterans in the $500,000 "Monmouth" stakes yesterday. Believe he's shown more under "adverse" conditions in his last pair than he did when winning the Derby and Preakness over overmatched fields. Today we'll go back to Belmont for another four, including the first race, which is scheduled for the turf. We had a pair "switched" off the grass yesterday, but our alternate selections proved valuable as we nailed both races. See the "Special Race Notes" sections under the regular selections in the Newsletter. Today's Best Bet is #7 Ride With The Herd in Race #2 at Belmont Park. Saturday's Results: Belmont Park Race #2 Ex. (7-1) $19.20. Belmont Park Race #10 Top Pick # 5 (Eldaafer) $7.50. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #3 (SKIPPING CLASS) - Filly has improved dramatically since a switch two races back to the barn of Bruce Levine. Finished second last out to a runner who won a dirt race here yesterday. She's been freshened up since that July 5, race and comes back at the same tag. Levine is a strong 35% off of short rests. 2nd pick: #6 (Karakorum Playmate) - Makes her first start for the potent owner/trainer combination of Maggi Moss/Steve Asmussen. Filly has run strongly in her two turf sprints, and that's what she's doing today. Asmussen is a great 28% first off the claim. 3rd pick: #1a (Fiona Freud) - Took her 18 starts to finally break her maiden and she has now won two in a row. Last was very good, and the second place runner won next time out. Experienced and dangerous. 4th pick: #9 (Chauette) - Lightly raced daughter of "Pleasant Tap" has come to hand quickly for trainer Angel Penna Jr. Improving with each race and she's been working up a storm. Special Race Notes: Selections if this race is run on the dirt : #2b-Indy's Forum #6-Karakorum Playmate #9-Chauette #1-Afleet's Passion BELMONT PARK Race #2 at 1:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (RIDE WITH THE HERD) - Made up some ground on this course in her debut on July 3, to finish a close third, and followed that up by chasing the pace and tiring in start number two at Saratoga on July 27. Freshened up since and working very fast for her return. She's the only filly entered with racing experience. 2nd pick: #3 (Eyes of Taurus) - Daughter of "Aldebaran" debuts for a hot barn (Kiaran McLaughlin) and her works are solid. 3rd pick: #4 (Can't Stop Lovin) - Worked five times at Saratoga without starting. Daughter of the "Storm Cat" sire, "City Palace" looks well-prepared by a trainer, Dale Romans that knows how to get them ready. 4th pick: #2 (News Channel) - Believe that this is the first runner that Allen Jerkens has run for the potent "Flying Zee Stables". Drill on Sept. 11, could indicate her readiness. BELMONT PARK Race #4 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (LIEUTENANT RON) - Runner was reportedly something special from his barn even before his debut last November. Undefeated in two starts and virtually untested, he is training in spectacular fashion for his much awaited return. He'll need to have his running shoes on as the #5 horse is plenty quick. 2nd pick: #5 (Six Thirteen) - Lightly raced, very speedy, and improving at this stage. In shape and working sharply, he'll be tough to catch. 3rd pick: #3 (Fleet Valid) - Returns off a late December layoff for Dale Romans, who claimed the runner that day. Quick when in shape and he's been training regularly for his comeback. 4th pick: #7 (Port Royal) - Has enough ability to stay close and offer a late run turning for home. Good filler in the exacta and tris. BELMONT PARK Race #6 at 3:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (WITHOUT A DOUBT) - Veteran will be looking for win #15 today, and he's had a great 2008 (7-4-2-1). Carefully handled and spotted by a great claiming trainer (Pete Walder), he has a nice combination of speed/stalking ability. Tag is perfect and he should have a fast pace to stalk. 2nd pick: #8 (R Fast Favorite) - Fast, fit, and making his first start for trainer Dom Galluscio. His best race ever was on this dirt three back. Big win threat. 3rd pick: #3 (Smart Hit) - Had no chance in his Saratoga debut as the track was playing to speed that day. Takes a big drop in price today and he should give a better account of himself. 4th pick: #1 (Red Hot Dawn) - Freshened up since a start on opening day at Saratoga. In good shape at that time he's had a solid season (7-2-3-1)and most of his races have been at this price-tag. ![]() Horse Racing Picks Resources:
