Preakness Picks - September 09, 2008With the main racing centers dark today, we'll have the same schedule of races we had yesterday, two each from Delaware and Philadelphia Park. Today's Best Bet is #9 Fire in Line in Race #6 at Delaware Park. Monday's Results: Delaware Park Race #4 Top Pick #5 (Sheriff's Choice) $4.00. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #7 (CALDERA PEAK) - Mare draws a good attack post at this 6.5-furlong distance and enters this in good shape. She's hit the board in six of her last seven starts, mostly against tougher. Claimed last out by Kate DiMasi, new trainer wins at a fine 31% rate with her fresh buys. 2nd pick: #1 (Tattletale Twist) - Freshened up since a poor try in her first race off a Steve Krebs claim. Drops off the rest to below the purchase price, so we'll assume they're in it to win it. 3rd pick: #4 (Gulch Jumper) - Favored last out, filly ran into a nice-looking winner that day and settled for second place. Improving since she returned from a layoff, she has a shot from close range. DELAWARE PARK Race #4 at 2:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (ROMO TO T O) - Colt has flashed good speed in his pair of starts which came 2 1/2 months apart. He's putting back-to-back starts together for the first time and has a fine interim work for this. The horse to beat. 2nd pick: #1 (Denali Two Punch) - Gray colt has been working "lights out" at trainer Gerry Goswell's home-base of Fair Hill. Draws the rail and has lasix administered for his debut. Big threat. 3rd pick: #5 (Wickaninnish) - Expensive ($450,000) yearling by "Giant's Causeway" will make his debut for the Barclay Tagg barn. Latest gate work is good, but he'll need to break running to have a chance. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #6 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (BABY ON THE GO) - Filly goes for her third in a row today, and is coming off a sharp win at Penn National. Well spotted by her connections in a nice betting race. 2nd pick: #6 (Mymyboogieshoes) - Solid runner rarely runs a poor race. Comes here from Delaware Park where she has finished second in six of her last seven starts. Likely favorite must be caught. 3rd pick: #3 (Sweet and Sultry) - Claimed off a narrow loss last out by trainer Andrea Gonzalez. Speedy sort has enough gas to be in this from start to finish. DELAWARE PARK Race #6 at 3:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #9 (FIRE IN LINE) - Home-bred flashed good speed in a debut at Suffolk Downs on August 1, against MSW competition. Switches locales and trainers (now with Tim Hooper), and he drops her into a claimer. Ready to roll. 2nd pick: #6 (Stormy C's) - Filly has finished in the money in five of her 10 lifetime starts, and will stay at a tag ($20,000) that she's "hit the board" at in the past. 3rd pick: #8 (Lion on the Beach) - Filly showed some speed this past spring before heading in for a 3 1/2 month layoff. She has a pair of sharp drill at trainer's home-base of Bowie for her return. 4th pick: #7 (Valid Impression) - Filly is going on five-years of age and only recently made her first start. Lasix is added by trainer Randy Nunley, who is having a career meet (211-34-41-39). Horse Racing Picks Resources:
