Horse Racing Tip - September 07, 2008Heavy rains were falling on Belmont as their card came to a conclusion yesterday so something other than a fast track is on tap for today. Today's Best bet is: #1 (Valid Humor) and #1a (Itobe) in Race #2 at Belmont Park. Either one will be sufficient, but both would be a plus. Saturday's Results: Belmont Race #8 Top Pick # 2 (Coyoteshighestcall) $4.00.Ex. (2-8) $9.50. Belmont Race #10 Top Pick # 2 (Head Heart Hoof) $7.60. We had nice winners listed in our other three races: Belmont Race #1, # 8 (Gimmearoitine) $24.40, Belmont Race # 4, # 1 (Sorority Sister) $16.20, Belmont Race #5, #7 (Credit Limit) $10.00. Unfortunately, we did not have them on top and could not hook them up correctly in the exactas. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #1 (VALID HUMOR) - Strong entry on view, and in our opinion either half can wind up victorious here. "Valid" hasn't been out since last summer/fall which saw her finish on the board in three of five races at the maiden special level. Had speed at that time and would expect her to show it today. 2nd pick: #1a (Itobe) - The "other" half of the Stanley Hough-trained entry showed big speed in her latest at Saratoga which was her first race in eight months. Needs a pair of scratches to run. 3rd pick: #6 (Our Dreamette) - Freshened up since late February, filly has some closing kick and could hit the exotics at a square price. 4th pick: #5 (Palace Cat) - Filly finished a strong third in a race that was switched to the main track early in the Saratoga meet. Showed some speed and held on well. Repeat makes her tough. Special Race Notes: The selections for this race are for the dirt. In the unlikely event that this race is run on the turf, the selections are: #4-Grand Finesse #1-Valid Humor #3-Phi Beta Mom #8-Tigertoo BELMONT PARK Race #3 at 2:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #1a (WILD LOGIC) - Showed good return speed in her race at Saratoga on August 20. Race was her first off a two-month freshening by trainer Gary Contessa and was her best effort since last fall. Slight move forward off the return can win this. 2nd pick: #1 (My Luckey Penney) - She's finished on the fringes in her last four, all running for $20,000. Drops down to $15K today and that should move her up enough to contend for the win. 3rd pick: #2 (Crazy Thing) - Has some speed and draws the rail as she goes turf to dirt for veteran trainer Cleveland Johnson. Threat, especially if speed is doing well early in the card. 4th pick: #5 (Decorated Court) - Had a poor start two back at Saratoga in the slop and still managed to finish third. Very wide last out and she maintained her position late. Drops from $35,000 down to $10K and she's a player. BELMONT PARK Race #4 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (MERCHANT MARINE) - He's four for five non this course and 0 for five elsewhere. Working very fast for this small stake after he was overmatched in the "Whitney" (G1) and the "Suburban" (G1). Can win this with a move approaching the head of the stretch. 2nd pick: #6 (Shopton Lane) - Probable pace-setter is coming off a win in a two-turn stakes at Monmouth. Strong overall record (16-8-2-2) and appears to be the fastest early on, and an off track would makes him especially dangerous. 3rd pick: #3 (Gold Trippi) - Mid-pack runner likes this distance (4-2-1-0) and is coming off his strongest race ever, a second place finish to the hard-hitting "Wanderin Boy". Threat with a move around the far turn. BELMONT PARK Race #5 at 3:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (R BETTY GRAYBULL) - Broke running in her Saratoga debut and stayed on well despite some traffic problems during the running. Held well to finish third and she has a nice interim drill at trainer's home base of Monmouth since that race. Draws the rail and her speed makes her a win candidate. 2nd pick: #9 (Imthequeenofqueens) - Broke slowly and raced wide in her Saratoga debut on July 24. Daughter of "More Than Ready" should improve in start number two for a trainer (Tom Albertrani) who does better with second time starters. 3rd pick: #3 (Speed Dating) - Chased the pace in her Saratoga debut, and both the winner and second place finishers in that race came back to win their next outings. Trainer (Kiaran McLaughlin) is very good second time out (26%). 4th pick: #8 (Dorothy's Essence) - Overmatched in the (G2) "Adirondack", she returns to the maiden ranks and she has "off" track experience, having finished second two back at Saratoga under sloppy conditions.
