Horse Racing Pick - September 04, 2008A reminder that Belmont's Fall Championship Meet begins tomorrow with a post time of 1:00 p.m. (EST). Today we switch gears to Monmouth Park for a four-spot. Today's Best Bet is #7 Poovey in Race # 6 at Monmouth Park. Wednesday's Results: Delaware Race #3 Best Bet #3 (Trumpet Call) $5.20. Del Mar Race #3 Top Pick #8 (Lippy Rules) $3.00. Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #2 (LIFE'S A PURSE) - Filly has finished second in both of her appearances at this $10K price tag, and in her latest defeated the bulk of this field. Should establish the rail and be tough to beat. 2nd pick: #3 (Polish Diamond) - Drops from a maiden special to a $10,000 claimer after showing some speed in that effort. Trainer Kate DeMasi adds blinkers today and filly should be a big player on the drop. 3rd pick: #4 (Sheryar Diamomds) - Ran very poorly last out just when it seemed she was starting to come around. It's possible that something went wrong (equipment, bad step, etc.). She's come back to work quickly, so maybe that's the case. Don't ignore. 4th pick: #1 (Dad's Dottie) - Has the rail and it's possible that she could hang around long enough to hit the tri. MONMOUTH PARK Race #3 at 1:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (MARMONT) - Goes second off a layoff and will go from a turf sprint at Colonial to a longer dirt race today. Both of this gelding's wins have been on the main track and were accomplished with speed. Draws a nice post. 2nd pick: #3 (Perfect Count) - Last pair have been very impressive as he's coasted in both. Broke his maiden two back sprinting for $10K and then won easily at a mile for $10,500 in his first attempt against winners. Three-peat is well within his grasp. 3rd pick: #6 (Rich Cat) - Veteran won for half this price last out at Philly coming off a six-month layoff for trainer Patty Farro. No speed to speak of, so he'll need some pace help. MONMOUTH PARK Race #6 at 3:15 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (POOVEY) - Drops back in for a tag after a "nifty" win at Delaware in a 1X allowance. Fits on style, as he has enough speed to stay close to the pace before launching a bid. The choice for the win. 2nd pick: #1 (Killarny Township) - Mid-pack type should receive a lively pace to rally into. Has the rail, so he can save all the ground before trying a rally past the half. 3rd pick: #3 (Desert Scents) - Ran poorly in a switched race at the Spa., but he was wide the whole race before tiring in the last furlong. Fits this group and has a better post today. 4th pick: #5 (Divine Light) - Possible that he's the main speed. He's done well since a re-claim by trainer Cathal Lynch, and if allowed to clear, would be tough late. MONMOUTH PARK Race #8 at 4:15 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (MAX'S FIRST) - Makes his third try at this 2x level and has the speed and the rail from which to do battle from. Should be in it from start to finish and out-game the others. 2nd pick: #5 (Silent Flash) - Stalker will be cutting back in distance after a failed first attempt at this condition going long. Has a solid sprinting record (9-2-2-1) and is the main danger. 3rd pick: #6 (Big City Pat) - Speed stalker has finished in the money in all five attempts at this condition. He's come close in most and it's hard to imagine him not running a strong race. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
