Horse Racing Systems - September 03, 2008Today is closing day at Del Mar, with the focus shifting to the annual meet at Fairplex Park at the State Fair Grounds in Los Angeles County this Friday. Belmont Park will also open its Fall Championship Meet this Friday with a 1:00 p.m. (EST) post time. Today, we have two each from Del Mar and Delaware Park for your wagering pleasure Today's Best Bet is #3 Trumpet Call in Race #1 at Delaware Park. Monday's Results: Philadelphia Park Race #1 Ex. (7-1) $38.80. Delaware Park Race #5 Ex. (1-11) $169.20. Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #3 (TRUMPET CALL) - Freshened up since a good second place finish at this tag and distance on July 9. Speedy filly is working well and is a wire-to-wire threat. 2nd pick: #6 (Annabelle Ring) - Finished a solid third, beaten by about two lengths by the top pick in her only race to date. Freshened up since, her trainer (Tim Ritchey) wins at a fine 23% second-time out. 3rd pick: #1 (Shimmering Pal) - Drops into a claimer for the first time and has finished second five times in her career on this surface. Tired badly last out, so the drop seems to be a logical one. DELAWARE PARK Race #5 (THE CAPE HENLOPEN) at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (ALWAYS FIRST) - English-bred became better with age as his record over the past three years attests. Gelding will be gunning for a third consecutive win in this 1 1/2 mile stakes and will try to do it off exactly a year's layoff. He won the '06 renewal of this off an eight-month rest, and did so with authority. The choice for the win. 2nd pick: #5 (Herboriste) - Mare has been keeping company with some of the best in her division over the past year. In shape, and she's been this rugged distance four times with a pair of wins. 3rd pick: #7 (Ra Der Dean) - Probable pace-setter will need to really step it up to win this. He'll be in front a long ways, but think he'll begin to wear out in the last two furlongs. 4th pick: #6 (Touchdown Peyton) - Won a longer race (1 3/4 miles)last out at Philly Park. Can run all day, but would need a career best to have a chance at more than a minor award. 5th pick: #9 (Touch My Soul) - European import just missed in her last pair at Monmouth travelling 1 1/16th miles. Distance is well within her reach as she tries racing against males for the first time. DEL MAR Race #3 at 6:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (LIPPY RULES) - Drops into a claimer on getaway day seeking the maiden win. Daughter of "Peace Rules" has run well in all three starts at the maiden-special level and draws outside of the other speed. 2nd pick: #5 (Mad for Candy) - Picked up her game in start number two when trainer Ron McAnally dropped her in for a tag. Improved speed and a solid fourth place finish were the results. 3rd pick: #3 (No Wonder) - Tried hard from a wide post (11) in her debut going 5.5-furlongs on August 3. She's worked strongly since and drops into a claimer off the initial outing. Trainer (Brian Koriner) is a terror second time out (29%). 4th pick: #6 (Jakes Lucky Lady) - Heavily bet in her bow, filly raced evenly without offering a late charge. Look for an improved effort second time out on the drop into a claimer. DEL MAR Race #5 at 7:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (POCOSIN'S GAME BOY) - Moves back to the "poly" after a pair of sharp efforts on the turf. He's winless on synthetics (6-0-2-2), but has finished well within reach of the win in most. Sits outside the main speed, and can win this with a tracking trip. 2nd pick: #2 (Partywithlarryz) - Gelding moves back into the 1X allowance condition after picking up his second career win in a $25K-optional on July 30. He finished second and third in his last pair at this level. 3rd pick: #5 (Onetimeatbandcamp) - Impressive maiden win last out for this speedy gelded son of "Forest Camp". He's come back to work swiftly since that win and he may have turned the corner in his career. Legitimate win threat. 4th pick: #3 (Victor's Cry) - Son of "Street Cry*" broke his maiden last out in start number six. Did so with a nice late rally after using front-running tactics in his previous races. He's worked sharply since and trainer (Eoin Harty) wins back with 26% of his recent "Victors".
