Horse Racing Line - October 30, 2008Today we'll return to Aqueduct for three races and visit Churchill for a single contest. Races #4 and #7 at Aqueduct are scheduled "Turf" contests, but in the event that they are switched to the main-track, we have given alternate selections in the "special race note" section following the analysis. Today's Best Bet (TURF ONLY) is #6 Chauvinist in Race#4 at Aqueduct. Wednesday's Results: Aqueduct Race #5 Ex. (3-5) $42.80. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #4 (BOSTON CAT) - Daughter of "High Yield" resides in the fine barn of Helen Pitts (Curlin's first trainer). She's run well on various surfaces so today's fast dirt strip should not be a problem. More importantly she'll race with a "tag" for the first time. Clear trip wins it. 2nd pick: #6 (Ash) - Another who dropped into a maiden-claimer for the first time. She'll be going third off a long layoff and she finished a fine second last out. Working well for the Frank Brother's barn, and she's a win contender. 3rd pick: #3 (Gold Glimmer) - Filly will undergo some changes today. Makes her first start in eight months and first outside the state of Texas. New trainer in Jim Baker and some fine drills for her return. Another dropping in class. Threat if ready. AQUEDUCT Race #3 at 1:25 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (SYNCHRONICITY) - Nicebly-bred filly cost $170,000 at auction - a hefty sum for a New York-bred. Daughter of "More Than Ready" debuted on a "good" turf course on Oct. 9, and chased the pace until tiring a bit late to finish third to a runaway winner. Has a solid drill since and moves to the dirt. Win contender. 2nd pick: #5 (Freedom Trail) - Another expensive purchase ($175,000). Daughter of "Friends Lake" debuts for a dangerous barn (Rick Violette) with their youngsters. Works are excellent and she has the look of a player at first asking. 3rd pick: #6 (Sassification) - Interesting entrant, has been trained up to her debut by trainer Mike Jablow at Calder. Works show that filly has speed and the pattern suggests that she won't be short in her first outing. 4th pick: #1 (Red Cognac) - The field's most expensive purchase ($300,000) has a pair of starts under her belt, one each on dirt and turf. Continues to work well and she'll draw the rail. AQUEDUCT Race #4 at 1:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (CHAUVINIST) - Freshened up by trainer Mike Hushion after a pair of sharp tries at Saratoga. Bred for the grass and his races clearly show he prefers it. Has run both on and off the lead in his last two and he's the choice for the win. 2nd pick: #7 (D' Wildcard) - Another who is a much better runner since switching to the barn of Angel Penna Jr. and moving to the infield. Pricetag is fine and this runner has a big chance from mid-pack. 3rd pick: #5 (Just a Warning) - Fine effort two back at Saratoga was followed up by an even effort in his latest. Runner ran in heavy traffic that day and never had clear sailing. Contender. 4th pick: #2 (Sir Jock) - Raced competitively last out in his second off a freshening and first for a claiming tag. Late finisher fits the race. Exotics threat. Special Race Notes: Selections if race is run on the main-track: #9-Jay Mike #2 Sir Jock #7-D' Wildcard #1-Perfect Precision #12-Sable Island AQUEDUCT Race #7 at 3:25 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (KRISTI WITH A K) - Lightly-raced filly broke her maiden in impressive fashion last out at Belmont. Daughter of "Petionville" had raced well in her other two starts and they came almost 10 months apart. She may have a bright future. 2nd pick: #9 (Morgan's Run) - Broke her maiden last out at Monmouth and defeated the top pick in doing so. Much like that fill in that she's only had three races and the first pair were separated by five months. In the Pletcher barn and she also could be headed for stakes. 3rd pick: #4 (Platinumplus) - Daughter of "Mizzen Mast" has run well in the majority of her turf starts (8-1-3-1) and has already proven that she can be competitive against winners. Latest, a second place finish at Belmont at this condition may have been her best yet. Contender for all the "board" positions. 4th pick: #6 (Roll the Di) - Deep closer is coming back from almost seven weeks on the sidelines. In career-best shape when she last raced, filly is training solidly for her return. 5th pick: #2 (It's Not For Love) - Speedy filly tired last out off a six week break after breaking her maiden. Blinkers go on and Dominguez takes the call. Probable pace-setter could last a long time on this "tight" turf course. Special Race Notes: I believe this race will stay on the grass, but in the event it is run on the main-track, the selections are: #12-Starship Cruiser #5-Flibberjibit #7 Latest Secret #10-Buona Sera Horse Racing Picks Resources:
