Sports - October 29, 2007It's the usual Monday scene with the big tracks dark. Delaware has had a poor surface the past two days with three of their races scratched down to match-races (two horses). Therefore, we'll go to Philly Park for our four selections. Today's Best Bet is #3 Clerico in Race #6 at Philadelphia Park. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 6) RUNITSAMONSTER - Drops into a claimer for the second time. Finished second in career debut and has tried tougher in a subsequent pair. Has speed, draws well for the seven-furlong distance, and expect him to run well. (# 4) Sum Badger - Well bet in initial pair at Laurel about two months ago. Working swiftly for the return for trainer Larry Murray, and son of "Milwaukee Brew" might be ready now. (# 7) Weekend Palace - Improving little by little and is coming off his best race yet, a grass contest at the Meadowlands. Very sharp work on the Monmouth main track from the gate indicates he may be ready to win. (# 3) Moonshine Mike - Pair of in the money finishes against inferior fields in last pair. Has some speed, should be involved early, but may be overbet. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #FOUR (1:45 PM Eastern) (# 6) CONSIDER ME - Pair of sharp well-bet sprint tries for trainer Alan Goldberg. Son of "Dixie Union" has blinkers added today, and also is sent a distance of ground for the first time. Has some speed and may try for the top or rate just off of it. (# 3) Gentle Journey - Is plenty fit after four distance races in a row, one on dirt and the other three on the Meadowlands grass. Nice maintenance drill at Monmouth on Oct. 23. His distance experience is a big plus. (# 5) Bold Desperado - One of a pair from trainer John Servis and they will race as separate interests. Runner has two grass starts and one on dirt - all at a distance. Blinkers went on in last and Lasix is administered today. (# 7) Shapez - Colt by "Lemon Drop Kid" cost $135,000 at auction. Worked well at Monmouth before his only race. Took no money at the windows, and never got involved. Comes back quickly for one of the best from years ago (Danny Lopez), and he adds Lasix and stretches colt out. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #SIX (2:40 PM Eastern) (# 3) CLERICO - Big move forward in second lifetime start to finish second at Presque Isle just missing the maiden win. Trainer Mike Matz took this runner to Saratoga for his unveiling so he must have liked him. Big work since the last race says it's graduation day. Would key this runner first and second in tris and supers with the other selections. (# 8) Northernstarglow - Pair of strong second-place finishes surround a fair effort in finishing third. Has speed, is lightly raced and draws a good post to attack. (# 2) Sweeping Return - Could be the speed nearest the rail in this contest. Cuts back from a distance to six furlongs today and should be fit after the longer race. Well-bred filly will be tough if she breaks cleanly. (# 5) Preppy Princess - Debuts for a top outfit in Mark Shuman. Daughter of fine sire "Good and Tough" has been working well at Fair Hill training center. Barn wins with 23% of it's first-time runners. (# 7) Medousa Storm - Goes third off a layoff and makes Philly Park debut. Pair of races at Presque Isle should have her fit for the return to conventional dirt. She was beaten convincingly by the top pick in last. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #TEN (4:20 PM Eastern) (# 1) POLITICAL QUEST - Horse has won back-to-back races since being reclaimed by trainer Richard Vega. He even made money on the re-buy by buying him back for $7500 after losing him for $12,500. Has faced better all year, and the drop to the $5K level produced the last two wins. Slightly raises in value today. (# 4) Cross Keys - Dead-closer needs some speed to close into and if all go, he should get it. Capable of a very strong late kick and has run against mostly higher valued stock in 2007. (# 2) Arpleasure - In very good form at present, he has good positional speed and a fine stalking gear. Fits, and is dangerous the way this sets up. (# 6) Final Finale - Was in a position to inflict some damage in latest but didn't kick in late. Previously raced at Presque Isle so he should be plenty fit. Raced well here against slightly weaker earlier this season. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
