Horse Racing Tip Sheet - October 27, 2008Congratulations to all the "Breeder's Cup" winners and the people associated with them. I can't tell you how difficult it is to ship a horse half-way around the world and have them be successful with all the things that could go wrong. So with that thought goes a special "job well done" to the Europeans who were the stars of the show. We'll wait for the weekend and discuss some of my thoughts on the big day and all that happened this past Saturday. Belmont closed its "Fall Championship" meeting yesterday and the long Fall-Winter Aqueduct meeting opens this Wednesday. Belmont won't see "live" action again until late April. Today we feature three races from Delaware and one from Philadelphia Park. Today's Best Bet is #1 Glittery Star in Race #1 at Philadelphia Park. Sunday's Results: Belmont Park Race #1 Ex. (2-3) $36.20. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #1 (GLITTERY STAR) - Claimed last out by the high-profile Michael Gill operation. Has the best speed of these and draws the rail. Filly will be very tough to beat in her first for the new connections. Wire-to-wire win threat. 2nd pick: #6 (Changing Year) - Hung on much better last out, reaching the front turning for home and showing some "grit" to hang on to the place. Goes third off a layoff and should be ready for her best. 3rd pick: #3 (Miss Bennet) - Still a maiden after 18 starts, but she's finished on the board in seven of her last 10 of those efforts. Weaved her way down the stretch "lugging" both in and out in a bit of an "erratic" try last out. Exotics factor for sure. DELAWARE PARK Race #2 at 1:10 PM Eastern Top pick: #9 (FIORE DE) - Noticeable improvement last out when dropped to this claiming price for the first time. Stalked the pace and held down the place spot to a runner who was highly thought of at one time. Draws a good post for his stalking style. Big win threat. 2nd pick: #4 (Varvaros) - Dominguez climbs aboard runner who kept much tougher company earlier in his career. Appears to be nearing his maiden win, and in this rather poor field is a major win factor. 3rd pick: #3 (Tyndale) - His number of starts are beginning to mount and he's not getting any better. Continues to finish close-up at this pricetag and he should wind up somewhere in the exotics bottoms. DELAWARE PARK Race #3 at 1:35 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (KARAKORUM ROULETTE) - Filly kept better company last winter in New York and is now running for $5000. Now with Dave Jacobson, she has run well in her last pair sprinting at the Meadowlands and will be sent long today, something she has done successfully in the past. 2nd pick: #6 (Hooray Riverside) - Front-runner was claimed two back by the leading trainer here, Scott Lake. Ran a big race first out for the new connections, and if allowed a clear early advantage, she could win this. 3rd pick: #2 (Exchange Artist) - This will be the first attempt in her career at a distance of ground. One run sprinter will need to stay close and offer a strong bid to be successful. DELAWARE PARK Race #5 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #9 (MISTER ROY) - Switched to the barn of Mike Gorham about six weeks ago after trying the New York circuit. Argentine import ran the first nine races of his career on grass before Gorham dropped him in price and let him try the dirt last out. Colt ran a fine third, stalking a moderate pace and holding his position late. Repeat run makes him dangerous. 2nd pick: #10 (Bruno's a Biter) - Lake runner will take a huge drop for this attempt and will also go turf to dirt. Has some good early speed and he may take them a very long way. Win contender. 3rd pick: #6 (Buddha Pest) - Stretch-out sprinter will need careful rating from his rider to stay close and try and save enough late to have a shot at the win. 4th pick: #5 (Takemywife Please) - Calder shipper has spent most of this season racing on the grass against better. Ran o.k. on the dirt last winter at Aqueduct. He'll make his first start for the Petro barn today and he could impact this late on his back class. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
