Horse Racing Handicappers - October 26, 2008With a bit of a "return to normalcy" following a great finish to the Breeders' Cup (see results below), we''ll venture back to Belmont for four races. They're almost assured of having something other than a fast track, so we'll stick with the dirt races. Today's Best Bet is #7 Bitabaz in Race #9 at Belmont Park. Saturday's Breeders' Cup Results: We had four top picks finish second - all at good odds and we took a stand against "Curlin", but picked the wrong European. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #3 (TRIPPI APPAEL) - Appears to be nearing a "peak" effort as he dropped down to this tag last out and finished a strong second to a "long gone" winner. Has enough speed to stay close and go by these late. 2nd pick: #4 (Final Story) - Makes his third start back off an eight-week break and he raced evenly in that pair against better. He's been competitive at this tag in the past and should run well today. 3rd pick: #7 (Aflareandaprayer) - Speedy runner tired in the slop last out in his first race in almost four months. Looks like the main speed today and could be much "tighter" in his second off the rest. 4th pick: #2 (Mr. Alimony) - Stalker will go turf-to-dirt and will also drop from a 1X allowance into a $16k claimer. Fits, and is an exotics threat. BELMONT PARK Race #4 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (DELLSLITTLERUNAWAY) - Makes her second career start today. Broke a bit slowly in her debut at Saratoga but settled and made up a lot of ground late to finish fourth of 11. Sent in for some freshening after that start, filly runs back at the same price in her comeback. Think she'll win this late. 2nd pick: #2 (Way to Karakorum) - Speedy filly held well last out to finish second in a much improved run over her debut. Stays at the same tag and shortens-up 1/2 a furlong. 3rd pick: #6 (Meet Me In Vegas) - Firster from the powerful Richard Dutrow barn. Has several decent drills for a barn that wins at a 26% rate with their debut stock. 4th pick: #1 (Green Harbor) - She's stopped badly in both her starts after battling for the lead. Working well for this she also draws the rail. Could run much better today. BELMONT PARK Race #5 at 3:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (LEAP DAY) - Nice training job by Mike Hushion having this runner ready to run a big race in his first race in 16 months. Colt stumbled at the start, recovered and finished second beaten less than a length. Wins this with any move forward. 2nd pick: #5 (Can't Buy Love) - Speedy runner will be coming back from a freshening and moving from the grass to the dirt. Works for trainer Barclay Tagg indicate he's ready to go. 3rd pick: #3 (Castle Harbour) - Just missed last out with a late bid at this tag and distance. Has several good tries on his resume and should do well again today. 4th pick: #4 (Sir Sapphire) - He'e been competitive in his last three dirt starts, but I think a win may be out of his reach. "Castle" beat him fair and square last out and he needs to address that issue before trying to beat the top two. BELMONT PARK Race #9 at 5:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (BITABAZ) - Lasix was added two starts back and he's responded with a pair of strong runs. Speed/stalker draws well and the field is a weak one overall. The choice for the win. 2nd pick: #6 (Scorch The Torch) - First foal of former New York distaff queen "Beautiful America", is by "Smoke Glacken". Win-early pedigree on both sides and his works indicate some talent. 3rd pick: #4 (No Bloviating) - Gary Contessa trained two-year-old has some sharp works at Saratoga and may impact this first time out. 4th pick: #9 (Slevin) - Son of a top sire, "Belong To Me" has been working steadily and some of the drills are better than average, Horse Racing Picks Resources:
