Free Horse Racing Handicapping - October 26, 2007

Today is the first day of the Breeder's Cup 2007 at Monmouth Park! We have selections and analysis on five races - the No. 6 through race No. 10 all at Monmouth, which includes the first three "Cup" races No. 8 through No. 10.

Today's Best Bet is #1 Miss Macy Sue in Race #8 at Monmouth Park.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

MONMOUTH PARK Race #SIX (3:15 PM Eastern)

(# 4) NAMASTE'S WISH - Mott filly has become a new and better animal since she was switched to the grass. Came from far back with a sweeping move on the turn at Saratoga to break her maiden, something that two-year-olds rarely do. Won a stakes at Belmont next out, and has continued her fine morning work for this.
(# 2) SEA CHANTER - Pletcher filly finished second to the top pick last out at Belmont. Ran well in a stake at Saratoga in previous start, with next out stakes winner "Zee Zee" finishing second. Should be around four to five lengths off the lead and make an inside run around the half.
(# 8) Annie Skates - European import has run three strong races, two of which came at the top venue of Newmarket. Last was a very good try in a seven-furlong stakes. Lasix is added today and Gomez takes the mount.
(# 5) Life is Sweet - Very impressive maiden Win the first time she ever ran on the grass. Lite on experience, she could turn out to be any kind at this stage.
(# 1) Grace and Power - Versatile as to style, she is two-for-two, and draws the hedge. May be able to sneak into the exotics at a price.

MONMOUTH PARK Race #SEVEN (3:45 PM Eastern)
(# 3) LANTANA MOB - Colt from the Asmussen barn found the combination of the top field and the mile distance too much to overcome in the Champagne Stakes. He's two-for-two over this track, and that fact cannot be underestimated. His two wins here in the Tyro and Sapling were visually impressive. This is not a really strong gathering, and think he can take this.
(# 5) Law Enforcement - Bit of a regression in last finishing second at Finger Lakes in a stakes. Previous pair were easy wins from stalking positions. Excellent work at Belmont on Oct. 19 for this, and Gomez's presence is duly noted.
(# 8) West Coast Coach - Pair of very smart wins to begin his career. Dusted a field at 34-1 at Arlington to break his maiden, then shipped to Iowa and won a stakes at Prarie Meadows. Working well at Hawthorne, trainer Jim Devito reaches out to Talamo.
(# 7) Officer Frank - Word was out for this one's debut, as he went off at 3-5 and didn't dissapoint, winning by nine. That was in mid September, and he hasn't run since. Works are absolutely outstanding.

MONMOUTH PARK Race #EIGHT (4:25 PM Eastern)
(# 1) MISS MACY SUE - Very fast mare had a troubled trip at the Spa. and was just not herself that particular day. If you discount that, she has five devastating wins in a row accomplished at four different tracks, all at this six-furlong distance. Great work at home base of Hawthorne for this, and I think she can take this from very close range.
(# 3) Dream Rush - Has carved out a great season with wins in her last two Grade 1 races, one each at Saratoga and Belmont. Has had eight weeks to prepare since the last win, and she will be a handful.
(# 6) Oprah Winney - This is undoubtedly the best and toughest field she has ever faced. Outstanding overall record, and is in the hands of a master in Richard Dutrow. Has had seven weeks since her last race, and that scenario has produced wins in the past.
(# 2) Miraculous Miss - Consistent filly has no speed, but is a strong stretch threat. Needs the speed to be both fast and contested, so that it will soften them up for someone like her.
(# 10) Baroness Thatcher - Poor post draw, but she has enough speed to be positioned about four to five lengths from the top and make a wide rally.

MONMOUTH PARK Race #NINE (5:00 PM Eastern)
(# 8) ACHILL ISLAND - Import from the British Isles comes here with a top record in four starts. Son of top sire "Sadler's Wells" is trained by one of the worlds best trainers, Aidan O'Brien. Colt looks to have tremendous ability, and the addition of Lasix can only help his performance. Think he can take this.
(# 5) Strike the Deal - Another that comes here from overseas, and comes off top tries in a pair of England's best races for two-year-olds. Johnny Murtagh, who has ridden this colt winds up on the top selection.
(# 4) Cherokee Triangle - Liked his race at Louisiana Downs in last, as he rated, rallied wide, and just toyed with the field. In good hands of Mike Maker, colt is talented, and has won around two turns already.
(# 12) Majestic Fund - Another European that has talent, but not as much as the top two at this stage. Post is also a detriment, and he'll need to work out a trip to defeat these.
(# 9) Prussian - Mott runner is undefeated, has speed and has won at two different tracks already. Could prove tough if he could clear.

MONMOUTH PARK Race #TEN (5:35 PM Eastern)
(# 1) DISCREET CAT - Former "Super" horse looks like he's ready to run his best today. Training sensationally for his second start back after the mid-east debacle. Has the rail, and would expect him to stay on it either on or just off the top. Can make a move at the half, and win it from there.
(# 2) Lewis Michael - Have always liked this runner, and he has really come into his own this year. Obviously likes the Arlington polytrack, but he is a very good horse on conventional dirt. Trainer Catalano is one of the best, and he names hot young rider Joe Talamo for this. Can take this from slightly off the pace.
(# 7) Park Avenue Ball - Another who would benefit from a swift/contested pace scenario. Stretches out off two sprint tries, and is another who is working very sharply. Six of his seven lifetime wins are over this surface.
(# 8) Corinthian - Looks to rebound from a pair of poor efforts in the Woodward at Saratoga, and the Suburban at Belmont. There is a lot of speed signed on if all go, so he may get a good trip in mid-pack from which to strike. Working extremely well at Belmont fot this.
