Horse Racing Pick - October 25, 2007Just missed a big-priced winner in the 7th Race at Belmont Park as our top pick, #1 Gulch Fever was beaten in the last two strides. Horse went off 14-1 and paid $13.60 to place. We'll have the three preliminary Breeder's Cup races plus two others from Monmouth in our Friday Newsletter. On Saturday we will release a special Breeder's Cup Newsletter with selections and expanded analysis on six of the eight races including the $5,000,000 Breeder's Cup Classic. Today's selections and analysis will be on four races from Aqueduct. Today's Best Bet is #3 Golden Weekend in Race #4 at Aqueduct. Selections for Race # 8 at Aqueduct are for "TURF ONLY." Wednesday's Results: Aqueduct Race #3 Top Pick and fourth pick #'s 1a and 5 both scratched. Aqueduct Race #5 Top Pick Winner #2 (S.S. Belle) Paid $5.70.
Delaware Race #7 Trifecta box (3-4-2) Paid $65. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 3) GOLDEN WEEKEND - Two excellent second-place finishes to begin his career. Well bet in both starts he finished second in last to a very highly thought of colt in "Grand Minstrel." Not a lot of visible speed signed on, so his up-close or on the lead style should be beneficial. (# 5) Vacation - Scratched the other day at Belmont to await this spot. Son of "Dynaformer" has finished strongly in both starts so far for trainer Shug McGaughey, and the mile should be right up his alley. (# 8) Spurrier - Good effort in debut run at Belmont in a 5.5-furlong sprint. Had a wide draw and finished deceptively well to wind up fourth. Pletcher is 25% with second timers and this colt should improve with the longer distance. (# 6) Pure Devil - Nice finish in initial race at Belmont, saw him run a distant third to a good-looking colt in "Etched." Lasix is added for this try by trainer Richard Dutrow. AQUEDUCT Race #SIX (3:20 PM Eastern) (# 11) CITY OF LIGHTS - Poor starts in both races to date have hurt her chances. Well bet in last when blinkers and Lasix were added. Draws a nice post for the 6.5-furlong distance, and an alert start could make her very tough. Jockey Rose comes from Delaware for this ride. (# 7) Mesa Girl - Troubled run in only race to date on the Saratoga turf. Has a great work on September 14 at Saratoga for this, and should run much better here. (# 1) Fairy Godmother - Has gotten a piece in last pair, and daughter of "Victory Gallop" has improved with the stretch-out in distances. Her experience over lightly raced foes cannot be discounted. (# 2) Gullible Gal - Mott trainee has not lived up to expectations so far. Draws a tough post for the distance, and she needs to improve. AQUEDUCT Race #SEVEN (3:50 PM Eastern) (# 8) PUT BACK THE GOLD - Nice post draw for proven up-close style. Drew towards the inside in both starts at this distance at Belmont, and that made his job much harder. Excellent shot at a square price. (# 3) Love Lindsey - Big effort in last and it came at this distance when trainer gave him some class relief. That represented his best effort in quite some time. If repeatable, it would make him tough. (# 1A) Nine Positives - Drops down in class off of two conditioning races against better. Stable won a pair here on opening day, and this colt will eventually come around. (# 5) Gift of Valor - Another who drops and needs a turnaround to threaten these. Broke his maiden here at this distance last April. AQUEDUCT Race #EIGHT (4:20 PM Eastern) (# 3) OH DEANNE O - Talented filly looks to keep it going as she has run four strong races in a row since switching to the turf. Only out of the top three finish came in a stakes at Monmouth when she had a wide post draw. Still ran very well in finishing fourth. Coa on the reride and she has a nice close-up style that fits this course. (# 2) For Always - Blinkers come off daughter of "War Chant" for trainer Carlos Martin. That should settle her down a bit as she's had poor getaways in both of her last pair. (# 6) Waquoits Love - Has shown progress in all three starts this season, culminating with a good-looking win on Sept. 21. Has ability, but needs to continue the upward cycle to win this. (# 4) Double Dinghy Day - Late runner needs some pace help to aid her closing tactics. Found herself too far back in last and offered only a mild late rally. She's training well, and should do better today. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
