Santa Anita Race #4 Trifecta top three box (8-6-1) Paid $37.80. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 8) BIG TRUCK - Draws the best post for the distance, and this son of "Hook and Ladder" has done nothing wrong in his two starts to date (both wins, one at Saratoga and the other here). Working fast since his latest race, he should receive a nice outside stalking trip before moving as they hit the far turn. (# 4) Giant Moon - Impressive win in only start at five furlongs here five weeks ago. Trainer Schosberg has given him three drills since, and presume they'll try for the top. Not easy to go from five to eight furlongs. (# 7) Dazzling Derek - Bogged down on the rail in most of last, he eventually would lose to the top pick by six lengths. Has talent, is working well, and the move off the rail should help him. (# 1) Be Bullish - Good looking performance in debut run. Stayed on the rail where he broke, swung out late and prevailed. Tough post for this, as he may have to send early. SANTA ANITA Race #ONE (3:30 PM Eastern) (# 2) ORIENTATE SLEW - Logical selection and probable favorite. Ran second in both races to date, a sprint to begin his career and a stretch-out placing in a 8.5-furlong race. Defeated half this field easily in latest and has a very sharp work since that contest. (# 4) Informed - Defeated in latest by the top pick by 3+ lengths. Have a feeling that he'll offer a much stiffer challenge today with a pair of very sharp recent works showing. (# 6) Fortunate Victory - Comes back off a two-month freshening. Has had many chances, but has back races that put him in this if he's ready off the bench. Works indicate that he is. (# 5) Classic Attire - Goes second off a three-month rest given him by trainer Ron McAnally. Another defeated by the top two in last. Needs to be able to reverse that loss to contend. BELMONT PARK Race #NINE (5:15 PM Eastern) (# 6) NAUGHTY NEW YORKER - Track was off here yesterday, so I'll assume there will be some moisture in it for this race. This horse comes into this in absolutely superb form, winning his last pair at Saratoga and here in handy fashion. Has had almost seven weeks since his last performance, and his latest pair of works indicates that he's ready to go. Enough speed signed on to help his cause. (# 8) Indian Hawke - Last was very impressive and it came first off the Anthony Dutrow claim. Has always had ability, and in his present form and at this long one-turn distance, he may be a handful to catch. (# 7) Building New Era - One of a pair from trainer Gary Contessa and they will race uncoupled. Capable stalker may get a good pace setup if all compete. Needs his very best effort to have a chance for the win. (# 3) Run Red Run - Lightly raced, talented gelding has been brought up to this off of two races by trainer Tom Bush. Last was a very good win over this surface, and a move forward is a distinct possibility. SANTA ANITA Race #SEVEN (6:35 PM Eastern) (# 11) DEWEY'S SPECIAL - Total makeover today by trainer Ron Ellis. Ran evenly in his debut from a wide post. Trainer adds Lasix and blinkers today, and gelding has an extremely fast half-mile bullet from the gate on Oct. 15, presumably with the blinkers on. (# 5) Fantasy Free - Fields most experienced runner ran a fine second last out over this surface. Style fits the race, and he should be heard from late. (# 2) Warren's Attack Cat - Well bet in only outing, and this son of "Bartok" showed good speed while wide before tiring a bit late to finish fourth. Nakatani takes the reride. (#'s 1 and 3) Kissin the Cobra and Liberian Freigh - These two first timers are trained by Peter Eurton and Neil drysdale respectively. Both are well-bred and drilling fine in the AM. Would use them in small exacta boxes with the top pick. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
