Showed some speed in both, and trainer Gary Contessa adds blinkers today to keep her more focused. (# 1) Golden Horseshoe - Claimed three back by Patrick Quick from John Destefano for $50,000. Tried straight maidens twice at the Spa. after the claim and ran well. Freshened up since, she makes her infield debut today. (# 4) Martha's Mandate - Speed shown in only start at Delaware - a dirt sprint. Second finisher that day came back to win next out. Stretches, switches surfaces and tries a new racetrack today. (# 8) Can't Bluff Mulvey - Nice series of drills on view for trainer Bill Badgett. Ran second at the Spa. in a seven-furlong dirt race. Lone turf race at Woodbine was poor, but it came from an impossible post (13). BELMONT PARK Race #FIVE (3:00 PM Eastern) (# 8) STALINGRAD - Excellent grass debut at the Spa. Was only beaten in the very last stride that day after being involved in the whole running. Very sharp drill here on Sept. 29, so he appears to be doing well. (# 2) Borobodur - Will need to overcome this poor post draw around the half turn. Has a little early speed, so maybe he won't get buried early. Last was impressive, but the pace collapsed a bit, allowing many to rally late. (# 4) Virginia Minstrel - Continues to run well without getting the job done. Has some positional speed to call upon, and can be placed just about anywhere. (#'s 5 and 7) Baletti and Leningrad - Would use this pair in small exacta boxes with the top pick. BELMONT PARK Race #SIX (3:30 PM Eastern) (# 7) BIG CITY SPORTS - Big improvement noted in last when son of "Carson City" sprinted on the turf. Was in the battle from the start from an outside post, and stayed on well to finish a close-up fifth. Winnwer came back to take another next out. (# 5) Kiamichi - Goes second off a layoff, and also switches surfaces today. Ran well at Oaklawn in the winter against open foes. Well backed in a pair of start at that time. (# 6) Western Call - Blinkers come off for runner who has exhibited an even running style. He's obviously fit and tries the grass for the second time. (# 3) Gimme Getme - Last showed some major forward movement. This field is weak overall, and this runner may offer a very square price. SANTA ANITA Race #TWO (4:30 PM Eastern) (# 4) POHWEROFVOODOO - Will never find an easier spot at this level to finally get her first win. Has faced some tough competitors along the way who have proven to have some real talent. Key this one first and second. (# 's 1 and 1A) Solid Brass Cat and June My Love - Different jockeys named so I think both will participate. The #1 appears to have the most talent, and if she takes to the grass will be especially tough. (# 2) Tribal Fire - Defeated by the top pick in her last at Del Mar by six lengths. Has been freshened up for two months and has some good AM workk to her credit. (# 6) No Tip For You - May be able to sneak into the bottom of the supers or tris at a good price. SANTA ANITA Race #THREE (5:00 PM Eastern) (# 5) OCEANUS - Poor race sprinting "down the hill" in last. That was the first time off the Art Sherman claim, and he now sends former stakes runner back to the poly surface. Ran well over Hollywood and Del Mar's new polytrack, so maybe he'll fare well here. (# 3) Island Launch - Nakatani takes the reride on Mike Mitchell runner who set all the pace in latest before tiring badly late. Best races are from just off the lead, and think they'll revert to that today. (# 7) Dr. Einstein - Best early speed on view, and Hollendorfer runner should clear without much resistence. Has been freshened up for the past two months. Runs well off the bench. (# 1) Refusal - May offer some exotics price as he tends to sneak under the radar at the windows. Plodding type may pick up a piece if the speed comes back. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
